Evergreen Hospital - "freebies"

I plan to deliver at Evergreen and was wondering what "freebies" both mom and baby get (if any).  I've heard some mothers/babies at other hospitals get free formula, a receiving blanket, a pacifier and some other stuff but didn't know what Evergreen offers. If you happen to have any insight, please share!

Re: Evergreen Hospital - "freebies"

  • Keep asking for the big pads and disposible underwear!  Those were great to have at home so you don't get your normal undies all gross.  Also we kept stockpiling diapers!

  • I didn't deliver at Evergreen, but I want to echo pp's suggestion of asking for the big pads!  They are soooo expensive at the drug store (you have to buy them in the Incontinence aisle!), so the more you can go home with, the better.  Ask for extra everything!  We formula-fed from the beginning, so we got to take home all the extra formula in our room (they were pre-mixed nursers).

  • I'm trying to remember - I think I blocked most of it out.  We did get formula oh and my water cup but that's all I remember.  I "took" the little shirt they had him in the whole time and a blanket but I wasn't supposed to.
  • I wouldn't say they offered, but we definatley took advantage of the opportunity for some "freebies". We were in the NICU for a couple weeks, but even in our regular room, we took a lot of stuff...lots of the receiving blankets, diapers, long sleeve t-shirts, binkies, burp cloths....also formula. we would just stick some stuff in our bags to take home and when the nurses would have a shift change we would always ask for more "supplies". i had quite a few people tell me to do this....they did actually give us a couple packs of diapers and a couple cans of formula but i am not sure if this was because were in the NICU and a couple of the nurses were really nice to us.

Yeah, they will also give you pads and those disposable underwear. I took a lot of those. ?

  • I would go on the tour if you're delivering there. But I took whatever diapers were left, a little scrub brush thing for washing his hair which I really liked, lots of the stuff they gave us to put on boys' circumcisions. Mesh underwear. My big water mug - you'll need them in multiple rooms of the house if you breastfeed. Didn't take formula as DS was EBF. I would bring your own side snap long sleeved t-shirts for the baby in newborn size, theirs' were too challenging to get over his head and get the arms in when you're exhausted and uncoordinated- the side snap are way better when they are brand-new. I also liked the big "Swaddle Me Ultimate Recieving Blanket" better than the hospital blanket for DS. Bring your own pillows, towels and wash cloths unless you like gym sized crappy towels.

  • you can take all the supplies in your birthing suite and/or NICU. your insurance pays for everything up front, regardless if you use it. they have a little bag of goodies you get - a nose sucker, brush, hat, nail file and baby soap. I took abot 5 receivng blankets, a bunch of burp clothes, couple knit hats and some bottles. ask for extra undies and pads, be sure to take the peri bottle home too. The nurses want to give you everything as they have to clean out the room of literally every supply. what you dont use actually goes to charity, so take what you can!
