Why is every bottle a fight?

For the past few days nearly everytime I feed DD I have to fight her to eat after she eats about half of the bottle.  She's been fairly consistently eating the same amount for a few weeks now, but all of the sudden every bottle is a fight.  It's so incredibly frustrating, she used to eat just fine with no crying except when we burped her.  Now she cries if we try to feed her after she eats about 2.5 oz.  I know this is not enough formula for a 12 lb. baby!

I have an appointment with our pedi tomorrow, but I just wanted to see if anybody had any ideas.

Re: Why is every bottle a fight?

  • Maybe it is the flow of the nipple?  Have you tried going up to a stage 1 nipple, rather than a newborn nipple?
  • Loading the player...
  • Maybe she needs a faster flow nipple?  My older DD did this because she was so mad that she couldn't get the milk fast enough that she would just fight even taking the bottle.
  • We already moved up....she's already on a dr. brown's level two nipple.

  • I was actually thinking of that tonif, how much is he eating with each bottle?  She's still only taking 5 oz. a feeding (when we're lucky), so I'm worried she won't eat enough if we spread the feedings out more.  She'd probably naturally adjust, but I can't help but worry.
