Recommend your Digital SLR camera!

We're in the market for a Digital SLR camera, and I have no idea where to begin. I've heard great things about Canons but have also heard great things about Nikons...

Please recommend your D-SLR!

Thanks!!

  • I just got mine - it's a Canon EOS Rebel XSi.  I freaking LOVE it!  The right and left pics in my siggy were taken with it.  Let me know if you want to see more pics.

  • Ditto the Canon Rebel. I have the Rebel XT, which is the version 3 cameras ago (they then came out with the XTi and the new XSi). I got it off of craigslist for $250 when they came out with the XSi, since I knew people would want to upgrade and get rid of the older one, even though it's still a fantastic camera. I love love it :)

  • My advice is always go either Canon or Nikon... Sony, Olympus etc make fine cameras too... but if you ever decide to upgrade or get new lenses flashes etc Canon and Nikon are the big two and have the most options.

I use Canon.  I would definitely recommend getting a lens other than the kit lens that comes with the body (the 50 1.8 is a great inexpensive option) and learning how to use modes OTHER than auto.... that's how you'll get the most bang for your buck Smile

  • Just got a Canon Rebel a few days ago...LOVE IT!!!!
  • I LOVE my Canon Digital Rebel Xti... but if were buying new I'd go for the upgraded Xsi... only because it's the newest.  My Xti has done everything and more that I've needed it for and I'll probably have it for many more years!

  • I pph my Canon Rebel - and thank Lajolla SO much for giving me all of my camera buying advice. You can check my blog for a ton of 'artsy fartsy' pics that I've taken the past few days. And seriously it is SO easy.

    Nikon D60

This is what we have and we've been really pleased with it.  The menus are very easy to use and I feel like the camera works great for a variety of photographers with different experience levels.  Costco often has great deals on this camera.

  • I can tell you not to get mine!  I have the Nikon Coolpix L15 and I hate it.  It takes forever to focus and then what seems like a millions years until it is ready to take the next picture (you get an hourglass).  My mother and sister have the Canon's and love them.  Now my friend has a Nikon Coolpix but not L15 and her's is much, much better.
  • Nikon D40! This past weekend we took a trip to a "slot canyon" which was a little dark inside, but with a few presses of the buttons to change the settings our Nikon D40 took amazing pics! It's also good for simple point and shoot pics too.

  • We have a nikon.  I hate our camera... stay away from nikon... it takes forever to get a picture after you take one, such a delay before the flash! you can't have that with a baby!

Exact same story... I have the Rebel XT off Craigslist for $280. Came in the plastic, in the box practically brand new, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. ?
