Hi all,
DH and I would like to have #2 as soon as is healthy for my body and for #1. My doctor said I need to wait at least 6 months from my last appointment for my body to recover from the C/S, before we can start TTC. She said if I don't, I have increased risk of miscarriage and/or difficult pregnancy (my first one was great). So for now, I'm TTA by monitoring my ovulation. The earliest we could begin TTC again is August. I'm not asking for opinions on whether or not we SHOULD, because we've already decided we'd like to, and that we could handle it. I'm asking for similar stories of TTC so soon, especially after C/S. How long did it take, how was it to have a child under 1 while pregnant with #2, are you glad you did it, etc. We think it will be worth the first couple of rough years, in the long-run. TIA!
Kelly
Re: C-section and TTC#2
Ehhh... I wound up pregnant when my son was 1 and a half months old, and no miscarriage in sight here. So far the only "worse" thing is that I'm having much more intense morning sickness. For a couple of weeks, the 'tugging' you feel at the start was kind of rough, because it was pulling on my incision! That's gone now though, and aside from the morning sickness and more food aversions, it's really not that bad.
Oh, and I talked to my doctor and we couldn't decide what is causing it, but I'm MUCH more tired this time around. We figure it's probably because I'm a lot more active (running around with my son) than I was when there was no baby for me to take care of. So if you work, be prepared to take naps at work or something.
And yes! I'm glad it happened this way. For years I didn't think I could carry to term, and we were considering IVF, or maybe adoption. To me, this is our one chance to have the two kids I always wanted. Who knows what would have happened if we waited a couple of years to try again?
We started TTC #2 six months after my first c-section and it took two cycles to get pregnant. When they did my second c-section, my uterus was stretched so thin (due to 1st c/s) that it would have ruptured had I gone into labor. There was no way to know this at the time and luckily nothing happened.
Being pregnant with a child under/at one is very difficult. The first tri I was exhausted and it was hard to keep up with my son. Second tri I had a broken wrist, so I couldn't lift him, but you don't have to worry about that. You can imagine being pregnant in the third tri, so add a toddler on top of it. I was spoiled during my first pregnancy because I could come home from work and take naps or just put my feet up. That was just not happening the second time around.
Having two under two was difficult in the beginning, but is starting to get easier.
After all that doom and gloom (sorry), I am glad we did it that way. The boys are so close in age and will be great friends. Take what I wrote with a grain of salt, I never loved being pregnant anyway and I am super tired right now. I am not trying to talk you out of it by any means. Best of luck to you!
We were not TTC, it just kinda happenedwhen I tried to switch BC. DS was 7 mos old when we found out about DD. It was physically harder just because I had DS (who is a huge kid) to take care of and I was working full time. DD was low for the entire pregnancy because my ligaments were still really stretch out from DS.
When I had the 2nd c/s my OB told me that my uterus was really thin. I was gald I did a repeat c/s to avoid rupture and so was she! I had a harder recovery with DD but that could be the crappy care I received at the hospital compared to when I had DS and having to take care of DS when I got home.
Good Luck HTH!
I've had 3 c/s in 3 years and no issues. Got PG while nursing, weaned while PG, and it all worked out. As much as it's tiring to be PG and have a baby/toddler, it's way more tiring to have 2 toddlers and be PG.
I have fantastic PG though. I don't get sick at all, I can exercise until the very end, etc. I also have really good c/s experiences. I don't take any pain meds after my c/s in the hospital or at home. I'm up showered by myself, walking, etc. the next day. And when I get home, I'm almost 100%.
I also get PG very easily. I don't chart or do any type of stuff like that. We actually conceived DD#2 while in Europe at my sister's wedding, and DD#1 was with us. DS was conceived last March just as we had started discussing the "possibility" of when to have #3.
GL to you. My only advice is that you need to be ready to "handle" the 2 under 2.
