Babies: 0 - 3 Months

If she starting it this early

does it mean she will be a thumbsucker??  DD is an expert at getting just the thumb in her mouth now and she prefers that to her paci for sure.  If I take the thumb out of her mouth and replace it with the paci, she spits out the paci and puts the thumb back in.   Uh oh.

Its cute for like a milisecond then I freak out b/c I don't want her to do it.  She fell asleep like this yesterday.

  • Honestly at that age that is a good thing!! It means she can self soothe and you don't have to replace the paci when she spits it out. I wish DD would prefer her thumb to the paci but she doesn't.  From what I read kids will outgrow this on their own- and it's not usually as late as people think.  Unless she is trying to talk with her thumb in her mouth- it's not a big deal.
  • believe it or not you will appreciate it when it's the middle of the night and instead of waking up crying cause she wants her paci she just puts her thumb in her mouth and doesn't wake you
  • My little guy was the same way with his fist.  Now he likes to hold the binki in his hand while he sucks on his fist.  It is funny.  Hopefully it is just a phase.

  • i demand a pip. stat.
  • probably. at least that is how it has been with my DD. We had pics of her on u/s sucking her thumb. She's now 2.5 yrs old and still sucks it at naptime and bedtime but not all the time. I much preferred it to the paci.
  • Jamie!  I'll get pics!  I'll keep the camera ready!  It is cute but I'm worried about it affecting her teeth/gums.  It causes overbites!

My god daughter sucked her thumb the day she was born...in fact I was holding her the first time she did it.  She still does it to this day and I really wish she wouldn't.  She is constantly drooling over her hand and it is a sticky yucky mess.  I hope Lillian grows out of that soon!  :D  Keep working on the binky.  GL!
