Larsen had a dr. appt. yesterday and it was about an hour away. ?I changed his diaper right before we left and when we got there I went to change it again and his bottom was bright red with small bumps! ?He has never had a rash before and we regularly use A and D for diaper changes. ?Would a certain fruit or veggie give him a diaper rash? ?That may be a dumb question, but I was just wondering. ?
I have been applying Aveeno diaper rash cream and it looks a lot better today.?
Re: Diaper rash-what is it caused by?
ds never had a "rash" but his bum got pretty red when i intro'd stage 2. our pedi said citrus fruits can do it ..and i was serving up more than i thought..
i love a&d and use their zinc oxide cream daily to prevent him from getting a rash... but cornstarch cleared it up back then.
DD has never had diaper rash but I found these..

(disclaimer: I'm both a real life pedi and a total stranger on the internet)
Diaper rash can be caused by several things:
1) Most common - irritative. Pee and poop sitting against the skin which causes irritation. Usually its red, sore, and worse in areas touching the diaper. Treat with frequent changing, fresh air, and barrier creams (like A and D - greasy stuff that prevents contact of waste with skin.)
2) Yeast - Caused by yeast infection. Worse in moist skin folds. Tests to have lots of round red patches surroudning worst areas. Treat with frequent changing. Anti Yeast cream. Check babies mouth for white yeast as well
3) Bacterial - Least common. Very irritated. May have *** blisters or skin peeling away. Needs antibiotics. Can be complicaton of other two types.
Usually a particular food doesnt cause rash per se, but, anything that cause more or looser poop can mean poop is in contact with skin more and can cause type 1.
hth,
?
I think the fact that he has been having looser poops is most likely the cause. ?Like I said, we change his diaper probably every hour or so because he pees all the time, so it is not like he sits in a dirty/wet diaper frequently. ?Thanks for the info!?
