Hanging pictures above crib

Is it safe to hang pictures next to the crib?  Someone had mentioned the risk of the baby standing up and pulling them down when they are older.  If I hang them high, should they be ok?

Re: Hanging pictures above crib

  • i imagine if they are high enough so baby can't reach them it should be fine!

  • I always worry about that (especially with all the wall letters I see hanging above cribs).  But I live in California and have to think about earthquakes!
  • We were super freaked out about this before our son was born. I bought a replica wooden propellar to put over the crib and DH refused to hang it up there because he was afriad it would fall on our son. I made him at least try it to see how sturdy it was and sure enough, it was on there really good. Like a pp said though, we lowered the crib to the lowest setting, then measured up about 60" just in case and made sure it wasn't lower than that spot on the wall.

DS is now 20 months and has never even reached for the propellar, so we say we worried for nothing. But hey, better safe than sorry.

  • i wouldn't do it. We had very light pics over the crib- up pretty high- they were just small canvas paintings (no glass/frames) - and DS quickly was able to reach them... so they ended up being a total waste.

instead i put wall decals there- which he likes to look at and point at- but they can't hurt him.  Same with over the changing table.

  • I'm with Gail, I am going to do decals over the crib and a picture over the dresser and changing table.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • we are putting a mirror with a wall monogram on it above the crib, but it will be securely fastened.
  • I think we're going to do the wall decals above the crib... and then the mirror above the dresser/changing table.
