Cloth Diapers

Hey ladies,

I'm from the 3rd trimester board and trying to make the decision between cloth diapers and disposables.  I know I will use disposables on road trips or with family who are sitting that don't feel comfortable.  I will work from home most of the time so no day care will be involved.  I can tell you the reasons I am considering them are because I know they are better for baby's skin and the cost factor.  I'd love to help the environment but that is really not the primary reason for my consideration of cloth diapers.  I just wanted to know if any of you have tried them. . .loved them?  hated them?  Any words of wisdom?

    I love my cloth diapers and am so glad I decided to use them. I haven't used a disposable since my ds was 2 weeks old. We use primarily bum genius.

    i love them! never going back to disposables...and we've been doing cloth since 3 days after he came home from the hospital!

    try the eco-friendly family board for some help and opinions!

    We use cloth diapers when we are home but will switch over to disposables when we are out and about, just for convenience sake.  DD prefers the cloth, it's softer and we haven't had any problems with diaper rash either.  We bought the Thirsties covers and just use regular prefolds.

    I love them.  I would never go back to sposies.  I recommend prefolds and Thirsties covers.  I actually like those better than BumGenius.

    Love just plain prefolds and covers.  Would recommend getting gussetted sp? covers (have 2 layers around legs to prevent leaks.  Also love the snappi for keeping cloth diaper on.  Have one size pocket diapers but haven't tried since DD is so skinny still.  Also make sure you get the right detergeant so you don't mess them up

    LOVE cloth diapers - and it really isn't much extra work. In fact some people were recently saying they do 3 loads of laundry a day - I don't nearly do that much AND I cloth diaper.

    My DD has only been in One disposable.. and it was at the pedis office.. We love them, We are using prefolds and covers. Dont be intimidated they really aren't that hard and are much cheaper than the all in ones. We were able to have a much larger stash than if we had done the all in ones! I do diaper laundry every two days! They are great, I have had two blowouts, one was my fault for not securing the diaper tight enough and the other would have happened whether it was a disposable or not! They are wonderful. No issues with rash from the cloth, we did have rash from Target wipes though. Hope you choose cloth, and just a heads up we bought an icky bag (etsy)  and have stashed a cloth diaper in the diaper bag.. it is super easy! you just stick the dirty cloth in the bag and carry on.. its not a big deal and there is no need to ever have disposables (unless traveling far from home) We do have three AIO's for babysitters/family. This way they can support our decision to do cloth without having to learn how to work prefolds! GOOD LUCK!

    We just started using BumGenius (DD wasn't big enough until now), and so far we really like them. When we are away from home for a long time we use gDiapers - they're cloth with flushable inserts. You might like those for traveling if you're worried about toting around dirty diapers.

    I love cloth diapering and I think it's really easy. Try several kinds at first to figure out what you like. They range in cost from prefolds at $2 to bumgenius which is closer to $20.

    We LOVE our cloth diapers.  We use cloth exclusively, it's not hard to do it when you are out.

    LOVE mine.  I mean, love.  So easy to do, save a ton of money and I feel good that we are being kinder to the environment.  Plus, they are so much better for baby's bottom.  Good for you for considering them and congratulations!  I'd suggest doing a trial with Jillian's Drawers to see what you like.

    The best way to clean cloth diapers is to pre-rinse themoff in the toilet using a Bathroom Bidet Sprayer. So convenient and if you aretrying to help the environment (and your pocket book) you can give it a doublewhammy by virtually eliminating toilet paper use, at the same time as youbenefit from using it on the diapers, by using it on yourself. I think Dr. Ozon Oprah said it best: "if you had pee or poop on your hand, you wouldn'twipe it off with paper, would you? You'd wash it off" Available at www.bathroomsprayers.com?they come in an inexpensive kit and can be installedwithout a plumber. And after using one of these you won't know how you lastedall those years with wadded up handfuls of toilet paper. Now we're talkinggreen and helping the environment without any pain.??
