How do you handle tantrums at this age?

DD #2 is 7.5 months old. She is driving me bananas! She has just figured out in the last week that she can tantrum and she does it non-stop. I literally cannot put her down or she starts screaming. I can't pee, get a drink or check my e-mail without the screaming and crying. As soon as I pick her up, she stops and smiles at me as if to say, "I won!" So what do I do? Do I let her cry for a while? Should I just suck it up and carry her around all day? I've even tried to get DD #1 to play with her as distraction, but it doesn't work. Help!

Re: How do you handle tantrums at this age?

  • Have you tried a sling or carrier? Is she teething, getting sick, etc-there could be a reason why she's become clingy. She seems young to be purposely trantruming, but I know it's frustrating.

  • My son does this (though, he's 16 months)...such a drama king! I just put him down and try to ignore him. He'll cry for a while and look up to see if anyone's looking, but when nobody pays attention to his fits, he'll stop and wander over to his toys.
  • ditto pp... got a sling?  at 7.5 months there's usually a definite reason... not feeling well, teething or maybe the 1st phase of separation anxiety???   I wouldn't necessarily be quick to ignore at this age.  after a year, yep. I ignored for nantrums.  before. no.
  • Is it boredom? I know at that age my DD would act out but it was always out of boredom.
