traveling w whole milk

DD is now on whole milk except when we are out and about I still carry formula since I can just make it there and not have to deal w it going bad.

But, I really want to stop spending $$ on formula when DD does not need it...she hates the flavor of that next step stuff and drinks whole milk well.  So, how do you do it if you are going to be out and about for a long time?

PS. This is my first post over here. I am still in denial that she is turning one in 15 days!!!

Re: traveling w whole milk

  • If I am going to be out for more than a few hours I will take some large freezer packs and put them in a soft sided cooler with the milk.  I have been out for 8 hours with milk like this before and the milk was still ice cold.  In the summer it get a little bit harder :)

  • Funny! Just when I thought things would get easier...I have to pull out the ice packs again.

    Thanks for the info.

  • K's still on a mix of milk & formula, but if I do need whole milk on an extended excursion, I just go to a?convenience?store and grab a small container to throw in her bottle.

  • We are a big fan of just purchasing milk in single serving sizes and throwing it in a sippy cup, and that is why we seem to always have a couple sippy cups in the car.  One sippy full of water the other clean and waiting for milk.
  • We either take a cooler or buy some somewhere.  They also make organic milk in individual cartons that doesn't have to be refrigerated until it's been opened.

  • Bring a cooler with an ice pack but honeslty, if we are going to be out and eating out, I just order her a milk and she drinks whatever it is.  A glass of non-whole milk every once in a while is fine and way easier than dealing with keeping milk cold to me.  My girls tend to have their sippy's water with them most of the time we are out and are happy with that.

  • I only ever take milk out with us if I know we are going out to eat. We only do a sippy of milk after meals. Honestly, it's going to be pretty rare that you need to take milk out with you. I have a couple tactics: I have a small insulated thermos, or I use a small soft-sided cooler and ice packs to keep the milk cold. You can also just order her 1% or 2% when you are out from time to time. It really won't hurt. Another option: pretty much all coffee shops have whole milk on hand. Good excuse to stop at Starbuck's!
