"Statistically impossible she's having a girl"

This is what someone said to me last week, as she debated with a co-worker the sex of my child. Now I fully believe I'm carrying a boy as well (solely based on all of the old wives tales...haven't been sick, pregnancy has been smooth and easy, heartbeat is 140 or below) but the 'statistically' part of her comment kind of annoyed me. Like how the ef does she know?

Re: "Statistically impossible she's having a girl"

  • Did you do the chinese predictor on this website? It has been right on everyone of my friends and me included! So that might be another sure-fire way to prove your point. Good Luck! And yes...I firmly believe in the wives tales!
  • LOL.. your probability of having one over the other is (shocker) 50%.. I would LOVE to hear her explanation of why it is "statistically" impossible that you are having a girl..?
  • Uh, statistically you have a 50-50 chance, and probably 50-50 isn't the correct statistical term, but that lady is wrong and maybe stupid. I suck at math and even I know this.

  • well.. FYI.. dont believe wives tales.. haha. i had the SAME as you and im having a girl. been confirmed 2 times. good luck :)
  • She doesn't know unless she is your ultrasound tech.  With DD I had a smooth and easy, no sickness pregnancy.  This time I'm having a boy and it's been rough.  I've heard the heartbeat thing isn't true.
  • Um, your co-worker needs to take a remedial stat class.

  • Hahahah ummmmm I was sick as a dog, pregnancy hasn't been a ball of fun and his heartbeat is always above 150..... And I'm having a boy! So good luck with that OWT

i conceived either on the day before or the day of my bday.. so i tried 25 and 26 y/o.. wrong for me..

  • Both of our families thought for sure that we were having a girl since girls dominate in DH's family (2 girls for 1 boy) but we surprised everyone by having a boy. DH said that it relieves the pressure off of him now to have a boy. haha
  • She doesn't know. She's an idiot.

  • Did you ask her for a copy of the calculations proving the science behind her statistics?

    That makes no sense.

  • I haven't been sick and have had the easiest pregnancy ever... I'm having a girl.

  • I had no morning sickness, super smooth pregnancy (other than some recent back pain) and baby's heartbeat was always right around the 140 range....we're having a girl :)
  • Tell her this statistician is blowing raspberries at her.

She's right that the statistical odd could be altered with information that was actually correlated with sex - but none of those things are, so she is so, so wrong. I hate it when people throw "statistical" into random sentances to make themselves sound more reputable. PET PEEVE.
