diapers drying out?

Hi ladies! I have heard that diapers left out too long (like in storage bins near the changing table) can dry out. As in, the Gel core or whatever that some have can get all crispy and not absorb as well?  Do you know how long is too long to leave them out?

I am kinda hesitant to use the diaper stacker we got because of this... I have mine stored in zip lock bags in the bins under his changer but it seems like a pain to open the bags every time I'll need one.  TIA!

Re: diapers drying out?

  • I can't imagine  what a dried out diaper would be.  They ARE dry.  I stack mine on the second shelf of the changing table, and probably keep about 10-30 stocked there.  No problems with them losing functionality.

  • sorry I wasnt very clear in my OP.. Someone told me the gel that causes the diaper to absorb gets all crispy and doesnt work as well, thats what I was attempting to refer to with the 'drying out'
  • Hmmmmmmm I thought they were dry & moisture activated the gel. We leave ours in a drawer and go through them. I guess it's nothing to worry about since your dc will use them pretty quickly.?
  • Huh.  I've never heard of that.  You'll go through the number of diapers you keep in a diaper stacker long before something like that could happen.  I wouldn't open all the diaper packages and leave them out, but filling your stacker won't be a problem.  You go through 'em faster than you might expect :)
  • You will be surprised at how fast you will go through all your diapers. I stored all of mine from diaper cakes and didn't have any problems with them drying out. Now they are all used up!
