Help...she only wants Cherrios!

Arrggg....feeding my DD is so hard! She doesn't want oatmeal or purees anymore and will only really eat Cherrios, Puffs and if I'm really lucky she'll eat diced bananas and steamed carrots. Should I limit the crunchy snacks for awhile and only try to give her veggie and fruit finger foods even though she won't eat 99.9% of them? Anyone else go through this? How did you deal with it? TIA!

Re: Help...she only wants Cherrios!

  • according to my MIL, my BIL went the good portion of a year with eating only PB&J sanwiches. I figure that as long as they are eating somethign then its not so bad. I would keep offering her the other stuff as well to see if she takes it one day.

  • Isn't your DC still on formula or BM?  They get 100% of their nutrition from that for the first year so anything else is really just them practicing eating.  My son eats TONS of Cheerios right now!  He goes in spurts - sometimes it's mum mums, sometimes it's apple or carrot.  He kind of gets on a kick for awhile then switches to something else.  I wouldn't worry!
  • DS was like that for a while.  One day, I just gave him a big hunk of banana (think 1/4 to 1/2 of the banana) and let him figure out what to do with it.  He loved it!  He ate the entire thing!  You could always try something like that--maybe she just needs something new with her food.
  • Yes, she's been EBF and then we added solids at 6 months. She'd just rather BF ost of the time. We'll keep at it and eventually she'll get it. Thanks!

  • Maybe it's a 9.5mos thing because she's been balking at everything but cheerios too :(

For lunch today I tried shredded cheese, yobaby yogurt, cubed carrots, fresh peas, pureed carrots, and a gerber sweet potato and turkey entree. I usually will only try 2 or 3 things before giving up but I really went all out today because I wanted to test the finger vs pureed/fed food theory I had. But nope. No "data" to support anything.

I'm thinking now that she's just so proud of herself that she can now eat a cheerio that that's all she wants to do??? I dunno. That's all I got. She just learned this skill last week so maybe?

  • DS went through a no purees phase and never got out of it.  Once he had a taste of our "real" table food there was no going back to bland mushy stuff again. He still gets yogurt in the AM though somedays.

I do the same thing and try to offer 2-3 things at each feeding. I say go all out again in a few days just to see what your DD does with the extra options. I just tried oatmeal mixed with squash puree and she ate all of it and some diced bananas. Of course, she had 1000 Cherrios today too but hey it's progress. GL!
