I'm a mom! Birth story.

Hi everyone! ?Thank you so much for the well wishes and good thoughts. ?I can't believe how lucky I am. ?We are home now and everything went so much better than expected!

Lyra Vera (pronounced LIE-ruh - does not rhyme with Vera!) was born on Friday, February 27th at 6:04 am. ?We went in for our induction on Thursday night and I was having regular (but not painful contractions) 8 minutes apart before we started. ?I was only 1 cm and 40% effaced, though. They placed the Cervadil around 10 pm and within 5 minutes, I was having serious contractions. ?Within another 10 minutes, the contractions were back to back - literally only seconds in between. ?It was so painful and intense since I didn't get a break! ?They gave me Nubaine to tolerate it and see what would happen, but an hour later took the Cervadil out because it was hyperstimulating labor. ?No kidding! ?The pain got worse and worse - around 1 am it was so intense and I had never felt anything like it. ?I was begging for an epidural, but they thought it might slow the labor and since I started out relatively undilated, they didn't want to do it too early, but checked me and I was 3 cm, so they called the anesthesiologist.

The epidural was the best decision ever. ?It was not painful to get and after the 40 minute long process, it kicked in. ?I could still feel the peak of every contraction and a decent amount of pain in my right side but her heart rate kept dropping if I wasn't on my left side. ?It didn't slow the contractions at all - there was still a matter of seconds between each one! ?It was absolutely bearable, so by 3 am we decided to try and rest since it looked like we would be there for a while! DH fell asleep and I rested. Around 5:30 am the nurse came running in because Lyra's heart rate dropped again. ?She decided to check me just to see and said, "you're about to have a baby!" I said "I know" thinking she meant it jokingly, and she responded that she meant I was 10 cm and the baby was right there!!! I woke DH up and we each called a ?set of parents so they could get there soon (no one in the delivery room but we wanted them there soon after to meet her). ?The epidural was great because I couldn't feel a THING and after 20 minutes of pushing, she was out!!!!?

She weighed 7 pounds 10 oz and was 20 1/4 inches long!?

She latched on right away and both sets of grandparents and her aunt got to meet her within the hour. She came out perfect and we think she is beautiful. ?I had a second degree tear but no pain with recovery. ?All is well and we were so happy to come home today. ?
