1st Trimester

How do you know how far along?

I just took a test this morning and it was POSTIVE! How do you know how far along you are if you don't see the doc for 8 weeks?

Re: How do you know how far along?

  • You go by your last period...or you can use the due date calculator on the bump or any other baby website. Usually you count back 3 months from your last period and then add 7 days.

  • Loading the player...
  • Yeah, plug the first date of your last period into the bump's calculator.

  • congrats and welcome.  Your OB will base it off of your LMP (which assumes you have a 28 day cycle and ovulate on cd14).  If you have a longer cycle, then you are not as far along.  They will be able to tell at your first dating u/s.  Also, if you charted and know your ovulation date -- that can tell you too.

  • if you have normal cycles then you can base it on LMP or your last period...try this website out:

  • I was charting, so I knew my O date.  There are a million websites out there that can "tell" you.  If I had gone by my last period, I'd be due 9/24, but I knew that was wrong since my cycles weren't normally 28 days... they were normally 44 days... My Dr. confirmed that I'm not due 9/24 when I had my first exam on Thursday.  (my uterus measured small for that date... when i told him I believe I Oed on 1/9, he said that sound smuch more appropriate for my uterus size)

  • The only accurate EDD would be an early U/S. Next is to go by your LMP. For me, it was a 5-day difference. You'd think it wouldn't be much of a difference. Since I had DS early, days can really be crucial.

  • I knew when my last menstrual period started, how long my cycles are... so even if I wasn't charting I would know how far along I was!
