Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Recommend your sippy cup

We use BornFree brand bottles, so I bought 2 BornFree sippy cups and he doesn't know what to do with them.  He just naws on the nipple part....

Which sippy cup do you us that LO likes?

TIA

Re: Recommend your sippy cup

  • It took DD a little bit of time with those BF ones, too.  I like the take and toss cups b/c they are a relatively free flow of liquid, and she seems to understand it MUCH better than sucking to get liquid from other sippy cups. GL!

  • 5 months is a little young to get the hang of a sippy cup.  We introduced them around 7 mos and they didn't get the hang of them until 9-10 months.  Here are the ones we've tried that have worked and we like:

    First Years Take and Toss

    Nuby Flip-it Leak-proof straw bottle

Nuby 2 handle cup with flip it straw top

    Playtex Baby The First Sipster

  • Ben really likes the Nuby ones with the straw - I get them at Target for about $4 or so.  They're BPA free, too.
  • we have two nubys. one with handles, one without. she got her first one with handles at 6 months and it took her about a month to figure it out.  even still she sometimes just gnaws on the nipple for fun.
  • We've actually had the most luck with the First Years Take & Toss sippy cup.  We tried the Born Free and several other brands, and DD just chewed them and never seemed to get anything out.  I think because the T&T ones don't have as much of a flow reducing mechanism or something it was easier for her to figure out.  I'm hoping that as she gets used to it we'll be able to switch and use all of the other sippy cups we have!
