Babies: 0 - 3 Months

to non-swaddlers, what do you use to keep your baby warm at night?

I know that this is a silly question, but if you don't swaddle your baby, what do you use to keep your baby warm at night?

Due to concerns about SIDS, I thought the baby is not supposed to have a blanket at night, so do you just put the baby in a really warm night outfit and sleep sack?

Note: Currently, I swaddle my baby but she's fighting the swaddle now and wakes up angry when she's swaddled. We're thinking of stopping/weaning her from the swaddle since she is so mad, but I'm not sure how we'll keep her warm if we don't swaddle her. We co-sleep for naps during the day, but I'm not sure what to do for her during the night.

  • We co-sleep so he usually ends up under the blankets with me. But when he naps in his crib, I put a blanket on his feet and legs, but he doesn't go anywhere yet, and I constantly check in on him.

  • we do footed sleepers and a sleep sack
  • We stopped swaddling last month.  DS now gets a long-sleeved, footed sleeper and a sleep slack (my fave are the Halo Velboa SleepSack, they are SO soft).  I also put a blanket on him although we've used blankets from day one even with the swaddle (we also have a movement monitor in additon to a video monitor so I feel pretty comfortable with it).

    Good luck!

  • We never swaddled because it makes her angry too...I'm wondering if we should have.  Right now we use a blanket and wrap it around her like a swaddle but she's able to free her arms.  The blanket stays tucked though.  We also put another blanket on top of that and tuck it around her body...we will have to stop when she starts moving around more (it's from her waist down).  Sleep sacks are good but not warm enough.
  • Footy pajamas and a sleeping sack. I never did swaddle he always liked sleeping with his hands out and up.?

  • I usually put her in a onesie and footed pj's at night then I do put a blanket over her from the chest down and tuck it in pretty tight around her so she can't get it over her face.  But, she sleeps in our room in co-sleeper or sometimes in our bed so I am right there.

  • Our little man doesn't like being swaddled either so we use a light blanket and tuck it under from the waist down. He is in a bassinet in our room so I can still keep an eye on him. I just make sure his arms are out so they can't fly up and drag the blanket over his head.
  • DS is a mover, so we have to put him in a sleep sack only. If we put him in a sleep in play (footed sleepers), he just end ups with his feet up near his belly and gets mad. Therefore, we just use fleece sleep sack and my husband with lay a blanket down and wrap it around his lower half like a burrito. Most of the time, by morning he has kicked out of the blanket.
  • Either a footed sleeper or onesie & sleep sack, with a blanket over the lower half.  I tuck it in tightly, but since she is a kicker and usually gets it loose I use an afghan that my SIL crocheted for her.  It has a very loose weave so I am comfortable with it in the crib - she doesn't pull it over her face though, usually she kicks it down toward her feet.  But it is very soft and she likes to pat it as she falls asleep.

  • When DS was in our room, we had him in a sleeper and a sleep sac.  Now, that he is in his crib, we just keep him in footed pj's, and nothing else.  He gets too hot, and sweats like crazy if we add the sleep sac.  We keep our house pretty warm too.  DS seems fine with it.

  • DS is in a long sleeved onesie and a footed sleeper.  Nothing else.  I would be too worried about overheating him if I added on so many other layers.

  • Undershirt, pajamas, and a sleep sack.
  • He wears fleece or terry cloth sleepers to bed.

ETA: At 2 months, we were worried he was cold at night. We would put socks and a short sleeve onesie on under his sleeper. Now that he's bigger, we don't do that anymore.

  • I use a merino fabric sleepsack which is cuddly soft and warm, all-natural and much better than synthetics at breathing so my little one never gets too hot.
