Is a pool party a bad idea?

I was thinking of having DD's birthday party as a pool party at our community's pool. They have a room that we can rent right next to the pool. The pool is resort-style in that it starts out really shallow and gradually gets deeper, like at the beach or something. I thought it would be fun for DD to splash around a bit, but really I thought it would be something fun for her cousins who are a little bit older than her. Not much older, though, they're about 2-3. Beyond that, I just wanted to invite a few of my friends just for the fun of it. But DD's birthday is July 26 and we live in Florida. An outdoor party in July would be a nightmare unless we're somewhere that we can get wet. But my dad mentioned that a pool party was a bad idea for liability reasons. What do you think?

  • my sons bday is in march and we live in new england so there isnt much to do.  this year i am having his party at my house..but for the rest, the pool it is!i think its a great idea.  no house to clean, no games or activities to come up with, pizza and drinks.  i think the kids will have a blast..and the adults too!

as long as parents arent leaving their children unattended there shouldnt be any problems! i think using a public pool is less liability on your behalf because its not at your home...

  • DS will be one on July 15, we are having a pool party at my in laws for his birthday, and will have about 40-50 people there (DH's dad is one of 13, my mom is one of 10, so we have a large family)

  • I don't think it's a bad idea for liability issues, but are the parents gonna have a good time when/if they have to be in the pool with their lo's? I would do that when everyone is a little older unless they have a kiddie wading pool for the lo's.?

  • We have a pool in the backyard and having the Candyland theme around that so that the older kids can swim and the babies can play in the jumphouse. Note: We are hiring a lifeguard so that we can be a little more relaxed knowing that someone is always watching the pool.
  • Ethans bday is July 28 and we are having a pool party and a blow up water slide. So I think its a great idea

  • My dad is super-paranoid. Silly me should remember that. The outgoing message on his answering machine says something about how the government is listening to his calls.
