Chapstick for DD's chapped lips?

Can you use normal chapstick?  I'm thinking I can put some on and hopefully she won't lick it off, but I'm also thinking I can put some vaseline on them after she falls asleep to help over night.

 Any ideas?

Re: Chapstick for DD's chapped lips?

  • When DS's lips get chapped, I sneak into his room after he's asleep and put on vaseline.  That has worked very well.

  • i've used plain chapstick (no extra chemicals) in a pinch but otherwise i put vaseline both when he's awake or sleeping. It doesn't seem to bother him.

  • I wouldn't recommend using vaseline, as it's petroleum based, and it won't help the chapping. I highly recommend using something natural like badger balm chapstick in unscented flavor, it's organic olive oil based, and it's safe and works great too  hth
  • Boudreaux's (the makers of Butt Paste) has a product made for babies' chapped lips/cheeks. ?I got DD some from Target (it's right by the Butt Paste). ?
  • we use aquaphor. for her chapped lips, for her bum, for dry skin, lots of stuff.

Ditto this.  Lansinoh is also great for chapped lips, and perfectly safe to ingest.

  • Oooooh I have some of that...I never thought of that.
  • I've used Burts Bees on Sarah - she's so cute...she purses her lips right up like I do when I put it on me!  :-)

  • I use lanolin too.  I'm not a fan of using vaseline or even chapstick on him.  In fact, classic cherry chapstick does not rate well (it's an 8 out of 10 - the lower the better) on cosmeticdatabase.com.  Aquaphor is a 2, but I don't like to put it on his mouth.  Lansinoh lanolin is a 1.
