If you participate in lent, what are you giving up?
I am not giving up anything this year - instead, I am going to try and give at least 3 compliments a day. Starting now - 1) all of you ladies are beautiful!
That's a great one. And thanks for reminding me that it's Ash Wednesday. How can a pregnant woman fast on a day like today - it's insane. I think there has to be an exception.?
Now I have to think about what I'm giving up or doing during this Lenten season...
I wanted to give up swearing. I'm trying but it's hard.
I thought about that one too - but seriously - when I'm in labor, what will I say? "Darn it, dang it, shoot, gee whiz?!" No thanks. I'll keep my sailor mouth until after I give birth. LOL
I'll give up alcohol, sushi, and caffeine. Wait, I've already done that for the past 7 months! Honestly though, since I am no longer Catholic, my current church doesn't practice giving things up for lent etc. So, I try to make sure I read my bible more often, and just try to be a kinder person in general (especially toward DH) and be grateful and thankful for what I have, but the hormones of this whole pregnancy thing may make it difficult!
BFP #1= DD, We've been TTC DC #2 since 8/11. BFP #2 on 4/18/12, BO confirmed on 5/21/12, natural mc 0n 6/1/12. BFP #3 on 10/11/12....

There is definitely an exception for pregnant women and the elderly. No need to fast today. We shouldn't gorge ourselves, but it's perfectly acceptable to eat normal meals, but abstain from meat.
because we are prego we don't have to give up anything or meat! we are excluded and so are children because we need to feed our babies! but does sex count? lol good luck ladies

This is so good! I've been trying to figure out what to give up since I usually give up some kind of alcohol. Cursing it is...I've really got to watch myself

I think that if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you don't have to give up anything. I am going to try not to sweat the small stuff--I think that will help me when the baby comes. I tried not cursing before. It didn't even last until I left the church after getting ashes.
?Why is it that ppl give up meat for lent, but it's ok to eat seafood?
?
Fish were not considered a meat in the biblical days. Also, fish were plentiful, while 'real' meat was not, and was a luxury. The tradition continues today.

No help to me, I hate fish.
if you listen to conspiracy theorists...it was a way for the church to manipulate the followers into eating more fish and thereby helping the fishermen since at the time fish was considered poor ppl food.
As a non practicing catholic that never enjoyed the nuns pulling my ponytail or looking at me crossly because I was left-handed, i don't know what to believe anymore...but i am taking the pregnancy free pass for this Lent

The bump.
Oh wait. Too late.

I always have a smart@ss answer. I have always said Catholicism. I'm a Baptist-turned-Lutheran. I don't count.
Nothing...I just don't have the energy to concentrate on giving up something.
Good idea about compliments...I suppose maybe I could ADD something. hmm...but that would require thinking, too.

I think I'm giving up gestation. It's going to be hard and certainly a process, but I think it'll be worth it.

I feel like I've been living in lent for the past 7 months.
All I really want is to give up my sloppy appearance without losing my sweatpants.
Ha! This is great. I wish I were Catholic so that I could give this smart retort!
