Follow up to work excuses, my boss just about gave me a heart attack!

From ealier today:

I now have 3 Doctor appointments in the next week and a half, and am far from ready to tell my coworkers I'm pregnant. So I'm struggling with how to request the time off and explaining the appointments. My boss is easy going but I have a couple of coworkers who always pry when I take time off. What excuses have you used for your early appointments? I'm mostly concerned about the short notice appointment tomorrow morning. It's not like you a teeth cleaning would be that urgent and short notice.

So I emailed my boss and asked him about taking off for the appointment tomorrow.  Even said I'd just take an early lunch and probably miss hardly any time at the office.  He responded with an ominous "Come see me on this."  Being the emotional mess I am right now, I start overthinking that he's going to quetion my time off, demand a reason, deny my time off.  By the time I go in I'm trying not to cry or toss my cookies.

I go into his office, trying to act as casual as possible. ME: You wanted to see me about my appointment?  BOSS: Yes, don't skip lunch, that's not healthy.  You do a great job around here, just don't record your time out of the office tomorrow.  ME: Indifferent Oh, Thank you.  Phew!!!

I hate being an emotional wreck.

As for excuses for the coworkers say you have to take your car in or that you have a repair man coming to house to check on something (meter, gas line...etc)

I do!  I'm very lucky to have such a caring and considerate boss.  Now if only all my coworkers could follow suit. :)

Your boss is great-as far as your coworkers, I would just tell them it is none of their business.  It bothers me when people are too interested in other people's business.  I think if one offers up information, then it is one thing, but bugging someone is unacceptable.

  • Aww, what a nice guy.
