Hello!
I went to register yesterday and almost had a complete breakdown doing so. I was completely overwhelmed with the little stuff.
I am planning on trying to BF, but I would like to give my child a bottle a day so my H can do a feeding or my parents if we have to leave the baby with them ever.
Which bottles do you like and why?
Thanks!
(also- if you want to recommend any must haves, your PNP, highchair, while you are in here I'll listen LOL)
Re: BF'ing moms- which bottles and why??
I don't know about the other pumps, but you can buy a feeding set to go with the Medela pumps. THe bottles will screw right onto the pump set-up and you can attach one of their nipples to them after you're done. We do that pretty often. The only other bottles we have are the playtex drop-ins, which a lot of the BF moms seem to like, and so do we. The nipples for the drop-ins are supposed to be the most like the breast.
Get a snap n' go car seat frame stroller instead of a big travel system. They are SO light and easy and the basket is huge. Then get a good umbrella stroller once kiddo can sit up better. We just have the standard Safari friends graco PNP. No changing table or bassinet cover thingy, and we haven't wanted for it. It was $59.99. We haven't used the high chair yet but we have the fisher price rainforest one.
If no one has told you yet, pick up a copy of Baby Bargains. It'll be your registry bible. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

We started a bottle right away and have had no nipple confusion. I'm still trying out different bottles, but so far I like the Avent and the Playtex Drop Ins.
My 3 must haves for baby have been swaddling blankets, cloth diapers (we use them for burp cloths, clean up - almost everything!) and plain jane white onsies (she still lives in these).
BLOG THE BABY STANDARD FLICKR VIDEOS
My Lactation Center has us pump to encourage great supply and give 1 bottle from day one, they have never seen a case of the mythical nipple confusion in 29 years at my hospital.
They suggested Playtex Drop-ins, I started with Dr. Browns and then Avent, finally settled on Drop-ins.
Not having the ability to BF is VERY rare. And you need to go into it with a can do attitude, it is VERY hard in the first 3-6 weeks and very easy to give up. But it gets easier so dont give up!
Bottles really depend on the baby so you really won't know until your DC is here. ?I would get small packages of a few different brands (the 1 or 3 bottle packs) and not open any until you're ready to give a bottle. ?Then open one and see how it goes.
With that said we started DS with Dr Brown's and he took them no problem. ?We've also recently started giving him the soothie bottles as well and he likes those, perhaps even more than the Dr. Browns (he LOVES soothie pacifiers).
Other must haves - bouncer (DS LOVES it); swaddle blankets with velcro (despite our best swaddle job he would kick/wriggle out of non-velcro blankets). ?GL?
We had to supplement in the very beginning so DS has been taking a bottle since day 1 and there is no nipple confusion. I don't think they need to be avoided completely but wait about 2 weeks before introducing one.
I have avent, playtex ventaire & breastflow bottles. I like the breastflow bottles the best. I think they simulate breastfeeding better than the others. Just make sure that the bottles have a wide brim and level 1 nipples so the milk doesn't come out so far.
A must have for me is the snap & go stroller frame. It is so lightweight and easy to use while I'm out by myself. I'm going to be sad when he starts to outgrow his infant carrier and I have to go shopping for a different stroller.
To make registering easier I recommend reading the reviews online and getting the book Baby Bargains. When I went to register I had a list of all the big things I needed and what brand I wanted. Then all I had to do was pick out the pattern. I did the rest of the small stuff online and it was so much easier. Good luck!
I have been using Avents and I love them. I had to give DD bottles of pumped milk 3 times a day during weeks 2-4. She has never had nipple confusion. People say they have trouble with the bottles leaking but I found if I tighten them too much they will leak.
I couldn't live without my Bobby the first few weeks. It was so much easier to get DD in position to BF with the Boppy. Keep in mind that BF is HARD. Sore or cracked nips, constant feedings, latch issues, etc the first few weeks is a hard thing to stick with. For me it didn't get completely natural and comfortable until she was 8 or 9 weeks. Now I'm so thankful I kept with it even though I was crying at the time.
DD hated being swaddled so those weren't useful for me. Really those first few weeks I just needed diapers, wipes, sleepers, boppy, blankets, breast pads, pump, and pnp.
Good luck!

Dr. Brown's. We had to supplement starting at one week old. No nipple confusion.
As for product recs, read Baby Bargains.
I personally think nipple confusion is a bunch of horseshit perpetuated by the Breastfeeding Military. I had to supplement from the beginning and struggled with the tube feedings, and extremem frustration while nursing that got us both incredibly worked up.
In the beginning I ended up using the nipples that come with the medela pump bottles. It was just easier because you pumped into the bottle, put it int he fridge the when ready to use you twist on a nipple warm it up and go.
She's now 4 months old and takes 2 bottles a day of formula (playtex drop-in system) and nurses 4-5 times.
We tried Drop-ins and Dr Browns and he did awful with both! He has reflux and it was way worse with these! Using Avent now with no problems!
We introduced a bottle at 3 weeks so DH could feed him and just to get him used to it! I used a nipple shield too for a bit, and even with all that, no nipple confusion!
If you get a travel system, I highly recommend the Graco Metrolite! The stroller with it is not so big and bulky like the other ones- we love it!
DS is BF and bottle fed formula due to my low milk supply. ?He has never had nipple confusion and switches back and forth easily. ?We use Avent bottles, though I'm thinking of giving Playtex Drop-Ins another shot. ?If you do go with Avent, they don't leak if you put the nipple on correctly. ?Here's the website to explain how:?https://mecrunchy.blogspot.com/2008/01/solution-to-avent-bottle-leak.html?
Whatever you choose, I would suggest getting the bottles with the wide nipples to mimic bfing more.
(Sorry I don't know how to make it clicky)?
I totally agree with you, but this image made me LOL. Arm the boob cannons!
