how long did it take for your milk to come in?

I can't remember with DS ... I know for me it was within a few days after birth, but I had him with me and was able to nurse on demand, etc.

Baby Dash is in the NICU, so I'm pumping to try to get things going (we're 2 days pp) and so far all I've made is the most piddly amount of colestrum -- no milk yet.

I feel defeated already, even though I know I'm being too hard on myself.

Advice would be appreciated.

I had DS on a Monday at 745, it was sorta starting Wed at dinner time but wasn't fully in till Friday, so I guess you'd say 4 days

DS was born via cesarean at 1:20am on Friday morning and my milk didn't come in until Monday afternoon.

the end of the third day, hang in there! at first the colestrum makes you feel like your getting nowhere but when your milk comes in it gets easier:)

I had DS Weds evening and it came in Sat afternoon. Please don't be hard on yourself - you won't get much colostrum and that has no bearing on your milk.

my guy was born Monday afternoon, milk came in full force on Saturday, so hang in there! i had to try and pump the day before and was only getting piddly amounts too. and then bam!

I had DS early like you, and he was in the NICU. I pumped every 2 hrs during the day and every 3 hrs during the night. For the first couple of days it was next to nothing, my milk came in around day 4 or 5 I think.

thanks, girls! I know I have to be patient, but pumping sucks and I want to feel like I'm doing SOMETHING since I can do very little with DS in the NICU.

I think it was about 3 days or so. I know it was a day or two after we were home from the hospital.

Induction & C-section Tuesday. Milk came in on Saturday. Apparently pitocin and having a C-section can slow things down.

My DD was in NICU for 5 days, so I understand the frustration of feeling helpless. Just keep pumping and it will come in. I think mine started to have some quantity around day 3 or 4. Are you allowed to pump in the NICU? We could close off our child's area and use the hospital pumps and it helped keep me motivated to pump in front of her...kept me focused. NICU is hard, but try to keep your spirits up!
