This is DD's 5th ear infection since September. She is in daycare full time & each time she has a cold, she gets an infection. The pedi recommended a specialist that we saw today & he recommended ear tubes because there was a bit of fluid in her ears.He said that it may get better over the summer, but will eventually come back next winter.
I know its not good for her to be on antibiotics all the time, but this surgery makes me nervous. I have a call to the pedi to talk with her about what the specialist said.
If it comes to ear tubes, I would like to take DD to Children's Hospital (1 hour away) to get it done instead of a specialist that does it out of a out patient office.
Anyone had experience with tubes? Would me taking her to Children's Hospital too "much" or just stay with the other doctor?
TIA! I appreciate it.
Re: Ear tubes?
DD just got tubes last Wednesday. She has had fluid in her ears since October and has been seen by an ENT since she was 5 months old (first ear infection was in August). We were very comfortable with our ENT's practice and did not go to a Children's Hospital. The outpatient facility was great and the nurses were just as nice and experienced as those in the hospital (we were in the hospital with DD in December for almost a week).
The procedure is extremely quick (10 min). The worst part is putting them to sleep. She seemed to be back to herself within an hour of getting them done.
Personally, we were tired of her being on antibiotics and after 4 rounds of infections/antibiotics we felt it was best to get the tubes.
Also, they call them PE tubes. If you search google you'll see a tutorial about them. It runs through the different parts of the ear, where infections begin, how the ear forms, and what takes place while doing the procedure.
GL! HTH!
