How to wash Nuby straw cups?

I had been putting the lid in the dashwasher with straw intact, but there is milk or water stuck in the straw afterward.  Do you have a trick?  Do you take the valve off?  Or the straw and the valve?  Do you wash those by hand or stick those in the dishwasher too?

TIA!

Re: How to wash Nuby straw cups?

  • Throw them out & buy Munchkin's 99 cent sippys at Target. Sorry, but that was the conclusion I came to with Nuby's - I could never get that straw clean.
  • Loading the player...
  • only one thing works!

I use the Dr. Brown's cleaning brushes (I had one from the bottles I bought and then threw away b/c of the bpa.)

At babies R Us you can buy a 5 pack of the brushes- they are Perfect!

I don't know how I would clean them otherwise?!

  • I use a Dr. Browns skinny brush for cleaning my straws. I never put anything other than water in straw sippies though.
  • I always had to take them apart and wash them by hand with the Dr. B's brushes.  After a while they will still start to leak because the tops of the straws crack.  We just bought the playtex straw cups and the straw part is way easier to clean IMO.
  • I put the top two pieces in a dishwasher basket and the longest straw piece standing up in the straw-holder part of the dishwasher basket.  They come out looking clean enough, but I'm still skeptical.  So I don't use them that often.
