Weird "wtf, body?" question (not tmi)

Can you think of a reason why the outsides of my eyebrows are thinning and falling out?  I'm not over-tweezing or pulling them out, they're just brittle and then either super thin or falling out on their own.  Blessed be bangs, it's not obvious or distracting, but it is weird and disconcerting.  I just can't bring myself to call my doc and ask to schedule an appointment about my eyebrows.

I feel like this is the sort of thing that Dr. Google would tell me means impending doom, so I'm going to avoid that at all costs.  But I'm totally okay with asking interweb friends :)  Thoughts?

  • My asthetician told me that eyebrows "learn" really quickly when they're not wanted, and tend to grow back very, very slowly where they've been plucked/waxed/threaded before.

Well then your eyebrows are smarter than mine.

Hmm   <----- cuz that's what mine look like most of the time.

  • If you are talking about the outher 1/3 of your eyebrows, it could be a thyroid problem.  Do you have any of these symptoms: constipation, cold all the time, dry skin, thinning hair, extreme fatigue?  Those are all classic symptoms of hypothyroidism, and your doctor can do a simple blood test to diagnose you. Let me know if you have any questions! :-)

  • Brittle, thinning hair can be a symptom of a thyroid problem. I have had hypothyroidism for 10 years. When my eyebrows begin to thin out, I go and get my thyroid function re-evaluated.
