Bum Genius Question

I am adding somethings to my 'myregistry' from jillians drawers and I am confused about pocket diapers vs. all in ones. It seems BG has both - what is the difference? Both are one size, do you just need to use a cover w/ the pocket ones? Also, can you add inserts (for nighttime) to both versions? '

I think my plan is to start off the newborn stage with some BG 2.0 in extra small (rec from a friend) and then also a few kissaluvs. But then I want to go to a BG that is super easy and I can use 'forever' after and I'm not sure I can see the difference between the two..

Re: Bum Genius Question

  • Pockets, you stuff with an insert.   You adjust the absorbancy depending on the amount you need.  AIO already have an absorbant layer sewn in.  Many have a pocket as well that you can add extra absorbancy but some don't.  The pockets are very versitile and you can stuff with microfiber, hemp, etc.  The AIO are very user friendly.  I prefer pockets and use BG3.0 as my nighttime dipe and when we go out or have someone else watch DD.

  • Oh forgot to say, you don't need a cover for either.

  • Thanks! So basically the only difference is one type of BG you HAVE to stuff yourself each time they're washed (do you "unstuff" when they're dirty before washing???) and the AIO BG ones you don't have to stuff, but you can add extra for nighttime if you need?

hmm There is quite a big price difference when you're thinking about buying a lot...

Pretty much.  Pocket dipes HAVE to be stuffed to have any kind or absorbancy to speak of.  And yeah, unstuff them before washing.  I always separated the insert from the dipe when I threw them in the container we used for dirties so I didn't have to mess with it at laundry time.

You might check and see if the dipes you want are available as "seconds" when you're buying.  I used mainly Fuzzi Bunz for my daughter and got a lot of them from their seconds website.  Seconds are technically dipes that don't pass quality inspection for sale, but I never found anything wrong with the ones I bought.  They say the snap might be slightly misplaced, a crooked stitch, a mark on the cover, etc...all of mine looked and wore perfectly.  You might also checkout DiaperSwappers.
