When I write DS birthweight, I usually write 10.8lbs, meaning 10 pounds 8 ounces. BUT there are 16 ounces in a pound, so the actual measure would be 10.5 lbs, meaning 10 lbs 8 ounces right?
so when I triple his birthweight it's
10 x 3
+
.5x 3
or 31.5 not
10.8 x 3 or 32. 4
right?
I mean we have to do fractions math for the decimals since pounds are not a tens based system??
f*ing new math
Do I seem wicked dumb now?
Re: Birthweight math or decimals are not my thing...
I never got this either when the nurses/drs did it. 10.5 is 10 1/2.
For 10lbs 8oz you wouldn't write 10.8. That would mean something entirely different.
In your case. 10lbs 8 oz doubled would be 21lbs since 8 x 2 = 16 = 1lb.
I think. lol
lol, I realized I don't do it right either. I said he'd have to be 31lbs to triple but he was only 9'11'' at birth...so either I don't know how many ounces are in a pound or I just am not good with the fractions.
learn metric! The whole world does it!
Haha, Brookie - yesterday, DD had her 6-month shots and my Dr. kept giving me her measurements in metric and I kept asking for it in lbs and inches. She was like "You're Canadian, what's your excuse?!" I don't know why but weight and height have always been easier in lbs and ft and inches for me.
The math alone makes me wish for a 6lber!
How big is Ethie now? Akhil was only 6 lbs. 8oz. so he might be able to triple his birthweight to 19.5.
You are not dumb. DH has trouble with these things too. I spent my college years working in a supermarket so I can figure ?these things out most of the time.?
