Hi,
I am sorry but I am a little confused. Isn't a convertible seat the same as the booster? I mean doesn't it conver to a booster?
I have an infant carsear, then at 1yr you get the convertible and face front, then what's the booster? Does the convertible becomes a booster?

Re: Booster vs. convertible q?
DS was in a convertible seat at 4 months (rear facing) because he was too long for his infant seat. 1 year is not when you get a convertible seat, you get it when your DC is too big for the infant seat.
The seats are all different, if/when your child outgrows the convertible seat, then you get a booster that accomodates a bigger child.
The minimum age/size for a Booster seat is 4y/o and 40lbs. My convertable seat has a weight limit of 55lbs so I will be keeping my DC in it as long as possible. DS has been in his convertable seat since he was 4mths old, but only because I was sick of lugging around the carrier.
And please don't turn your DC forward facing at 1 y/o. My convertable seat has a rear facing limit of 35lbs and DS will be rear facing until then, it's safer. You can Google this, there is tons of information out there as to why it is safer to keep your child rear facing as long as possible.

I highly recommend these seats:
Britax Roundabout, Marathon, Boulevard
First Years True Fit
Evenflo Triumph
I do not recommend these seats:
Alpha Omega Elite
Eddie Bauer
Graco Comfortsport
This is a typical convertable seat:
This is a typical booster seat. They use the car seat belt in the car as opposed to an attached carseat belt.
