First time poster on this board. This is really basic but I'm at a loss. I bought an ovulation kit last night at the recommendation of my OB/GYN. We've been trying for 8 months to get pregnant. The kit contains 7 sticks that you test you urine in and it supposedly tells you when you're 24-48 hours from ovulating. So my stupid, basic question is this: when do you start to use those 7 sticks? This is probably TMI, but in case it helps, the first day of my last cycle was 11 Feb. My cycle is so irregular - the pharmacist suggested using the sticks in the days leading up to my next period, however, sometimes my cycle is 23 days, sometimes it's 29 days, and other times it's somewhere in between. I'm open to any suggestions/advice. TIA!
Re: stupid question re ovulation kit
Do you chart? Observe CM? You really should do that as well to demystify your irregular cycles and help you determine when you should start peeing.
the instructions in the box should tell you on what cycle day to start testing, based on the length of previous cycles. there's only a 6 day difference in yours, which shouldn't be an issue with when to start testing.
and another reason not to ask a pharmacist non-med-related stuff..... based on what he said, he's telling you to test for ovulation after you've ovulated.
I suggest buying the Answer OPKs that come with 20 strips. that way you can start a few days after your period ends.
Start charting. Read through Fertilityfriend.com or some other website. There is tons of info out there on this if you look for it.
3 words: read the instructions.
The instructions will give you a guide as to when to start using the sticks, based on your average cycle lenth. Since yours is around 26 days, use that and check the instructions to guide you.
If you don't get a + this cycle on your OPK, adjust your POAS timing for next cycle.
Nikki summed it up pretty well.
And definitely consider charting. It can answer a LOT of questions about whether or not you are ovulating, when you are ovulating, whether or not there is sufficient time for an embryo to implant (ie, appropriate luteal phase).
