Diaper Size Question

Hi Everyone!

My son will be 5 months old on the 25th.  Right now, he currently is in Size 2 Pampers diapers.  He weighs 14 pounds, 10 ounces.  They say they go up to 18 pounds but he had a #2 today that totally was everywhere! (Sorry so gross)  My question is...did your DC stay in the size 2 diapers all the way up to 18 pounds or did you switch to the next size up before then?

TIA!

Candace

Re: Diaper Size Question

  • My son has NEVER stayed in diapers up to the top of the recommended weight range.  It sounds silly, but every baby's butt is different.   :)   Some stay in them longer, some can't stay in them long at all.  My son was only in size 3's for about 2-3 weeks, then we went straight to size 4's.  We just couldn't find any 3's that fit him right and held it all.

  • The size 2's were getting tight a few weeks ago.  I finished those up, and switched to the size 3's about 2 weeks ago.  When he went to the doc last week, he was 17 lbs, 14.5 ozs.  No wonder they were getting tight.  The size 3's fit fine for us.  We switched to cruisers.  So no, we did not wait until he was 18 lbs.  I'd bet he was 17 lbs, maybe a little more, when we switched.  You could always buy the size 3's, and if they don't work yet save them.  You'll use them eventually!  Size 3's are 16-28 lbs.
  • Allison stayed in size 2 until about six months.  We switched her to size 3 about the same time we switched her to size 9 clothing.  It was definitely before 18 pounds.  The sizes really overlap, which drives me nuts.  I think size 3 starts at something like 16 pounds?  She's still in size 3 almost a year later, but we'll probably be switching to size 4 in the next couple months.
  • DS is in size 2-3 diapers.  He's been in them since he was probably 5 months old.  He has never made it to the weight limit for any of the diapers.

  • I think by weight Ellie should be in size 3s. She's in 5s. :) i put no stock in the weight suggestions on diapers anymore.

  • We never stay in diapers until the max weight either.  DD is all belly, so they never fit without leaking at the max weight.  She has been in size 3s since she was barely 5 months old...15.5 lb.  I did discover that Huggies contoured fit diapers are great for containing up the back blowouts.  They have a small stretchy elastic band on the back waistband that keeps it all in check.  It worked even with DD's recent GI bug blowouts.  Cruisers are great, but the Huggies work the best for blowouts.

  • Like PP said, every baby's butt is different.

Or in DD's case, her waist. DD weighs 16 lbs and is still in size 2. We just bought some size 2-3, but they're big around the waist.

It's possibly he just had a bad blowout. She's had a couple of those. In that case, I don't think the size of the diaper matters. Sometimes nothing will hold it!
