Anyone wait to turn the car seat?

We had planned to move Luca to forward facing very soon.  Yesterday at the pedi, he gave us a ton of research about safety and really thinks we should wait until 2 or until he can no longer comfortably fit rear facing..  He is happy the way he is...  Anyone wait?  He thinks that we will see the recommendations change in the very near future...

Re: Anyone wait to turn the car seat?

  • I am a big believer in rear facing.  We didn't turn DS until he turned 3.  They are so much safer rear facing and he was happy.

  • We are waiting as long as possible....Natalie is happy as a clam RFing and it is much much safer.

  • We turned as soon as we could.  However, Avery is pretty big.  If Deux is smaller (doubt it), we'll leave him rear facing as long as we can.

  • Absolutely! DD is top of the charts for height and I have no intention of turning her until she maxes out the seat.

Pretty much every group recommends extended rear-facing. It's only the law that's out of date.

  • I waited as long as we could - 20 months of age or longer (hard to remember).

I believe in waiting as long as he's comfortable.

  • At 14 months Amelia still isn't big enough to turn around.  She's only 18ish pounds now.  We can't wait to turn her around, she's long enough...just not chunky enough.  She's getting a bit squished because of her length, but we'll keep her rear facing until her pediatrician says we're ok to turn her.
  • Gideon will be 2 in March and we still have yet to turn him.

  • We plan on waiting as long as possible and since DD is a peanut she may get her drivers license and finally be front facing all in the same year Wink

  • We didn't turn until after 18 months and I was disappointed we had to turn him that early. ?We have a small car and he just got too big for me to be able to put him in rfing anymore, especially once my belly got too big. ?He was perfectly happy remaining rfing as long as we wanted.
  • We're waiting also.  She is not even 19 pounds yet and still fits in her infant car seat.

Ditto. ?Charlotte is not even 18 lbs yet at almost a year (we make some peanuts!), so we'll wait until we absolutely HAVE to turn her. ?I see no reason to turn her FF; she's perfectly happy RF.?

  • If I had my way he would still be rear facing but I just could NOT convince my husband of the benefits.  and YES I sent him the link and I showed him evidence but for some reason he really wanted him forward facing.

I think he was about 16 months when I gave in.

  • I'm not turning Aidan yet - he is technically able to by age and weight but I just don't see a need to yet.  In fact, I ordered a Marathon for him but he is still in his infant seat for now since it goes up to 30lbs and 30" there is not a rush to even move him out of it.
  • We waited until 13 months. He was a bear and would scream and cry in his car seat because he couldn't see, so we waited as long as I could take the long screaming trips. He was happy as a clam once we turned him. Next time I will wait as long as my child allows once they are big enough to turn around.

this was us. i really wanted to keep him RFing longer but his legs got very long and he threw fits about having to sit cross legged. he also wanted to see. i was so nervous about him front facing that we even bought a new car seat for my car 9and put his other in DHs car) that had more safety features. like PP, we will keep #2 FRing as long as possible. its just safer.

  • i wanted to, but we live far from everything and i couldn't take the screaming the whole drive anymore.  we turned her at 15mo when she hit 20lbs.

micah will stay as long as possible.

  • We turned her at 18 months or so--It was August, and her heat rash was not healing.  Once we turned her, the a/c could hit her directly, and it finally went away.

If it wasn't for that, she would still be rear-facing.

  • If he's perfectly fine rear facing, I would definitely go as long as you can RFing.  It is the safest.  With that said, I only went to 15 months and turned her.  Her legs were all bent up and she was crying more often being rear facing.
