DD sick, to go or not to go to doc?

Yesterday DD had an infrequent but chesty cough. She ate normal dinner, normal bedtime. Woke up at 12:30, big wet spot all around her head from coughing and runny nose. I picked her up and she threw up. No fever. Changed her, changed sheets, she went right back down.

Woke up in good mood, still coughing/runny nose, no fever. Seems like "just" a cold. She ate only 1 oz and ended up throwing it up. We took a steam together which seemed to do her good. A few hours later ate some oatmeal and ~1 oz water (refused breastmilk).

If it's just a cold then there's no treatment but rest and humidity, right? I wasn't going to take DD to doctor because no fever and she doesn't seem overly upset, just cranky/stuffy. When I called nurse they said it sounds like a cold but since she hasn't eaten I could bring her in if I want. I don't want to be a bad mommy (or misdiagnose since I'm not a med professional!) but I feel like staying in is better than going out in the cold for a "just a cold" diagnosis... WWYD?

  • I would at least call the doctor. If she has any chest congestion, they'll probably want to see her.

  • I took DD to the dr. yesterday because she has been suffering from a cold for 10 days. Really no other symptoms.. she was playing, eating and still sleeping pretty well.  Turns out she has a double ear infection. :-(  I would definitely call and see if they want to see her.  Hope your DD is feeling better soon!
