Modified Bedrest?

My MFM told me at my last appointment that its standard procedure for them to put everyone pg with twin/triplets on modified bedrest between 24-26 weeks.  So far my babies and I have been doing great.  I work full-time, but at a desk job, although I do have about an hour drive each way.   Has anyone else heard of this?  How did you handle working?  Or did you stop?  I want to work as long as possible, but of course I will do anything I can to make sure my babies stay healthy and to prevent PTL.

Thanks!

Re: Modified Bedrest?

  • I have been on mod. bedrest since I found out I was having twins at 18 weeks.  My dr. said that it was just a precaution.

  • My dr. was the same way. It's their practice for triplets. I was done with work at 18 weeks. And really slowed down at 20 weeks.
  • I have a desk job with about a half-hour drive each way.  I cut back my work schedule to going in 2-3 days a week at about 28-29 weeks.  My doctor didn't suggest I stay home full-time until about 35 weeks.  His policy is to just listen to your body-- I started having Braxton-Hicks at around 28-29 weeks, which is why I cut down then.
  • I have been feeling good (except for not being able to sleep, or walking up a flight of stairs w/o gasping for air, or back pain from desk chair, or bh contractions everynight)  Other then all that I am healthy and my Dr said there is no need to take me out of work or put me on mod. bed rest.

I do try to take it easy and rest as much as I can though.

I agree w/ pp that you should listen to your body - it will definitely tell you when to slow down.

  • Thanks everyone!  I am hoping my dr. will still let me work, as long as I feel okay.  I have no problem slowing down.
  • I don't work outside the home but I do have a toddler. I have also been feeling good so far and my doctor said that since I'm healthy and seem to have a good balance going now with regard to rest I won't be put on any bedrest. She just said to make sure I take time to sit and relax whenever I can and during naps.

  • I just got put on modified bedrest today at almost 36 weeks. I work long hours and 1/2 the time its at a desk the other is on my feet or driving around (real estate). Because everything looked so great for so long they didnt mind me working. Today the Dr told me I was pushing her limits and it was time to take maternity leave. I miss work already! But I do want healthy, strong, 37-38 weekers!  Good luck to you!
