Babies: 9 - 12 Months

bumGenius users - Which rash cream do you use?

I'm registering for bumGenius 3.0s and I've heard that diaper rashes aren't as common among cloth diapers. I still want to register for cream to have around the house, and I'm on pinstripes and polkadot's website. They have a lot of creams that are approved for cd's, but I was wondering if anyone had a favorite or one that I should steer clear of.

Thanks in advance!?

  • There is one everyone on the EFF board uses... cant remember off the top of my head. I pull her from the BG and put her in Natures Baby Care (bio-deg dispos)  and use butt paste.Im no help sorry!

That's ok! I posted over there too, I thought I would get more of a survey with both. I just hope I like the BGs. I have heard some people love them and some people hate them. 1st time mom here, and I want to make it easy on DH. Thanks though.?

  • I use Dr. Smith's.  It was the only one that would work for DS.  I believe you can only get it at Walgreen's and a few grocery stores like Krogers.
  • We also are first time users an LOVE them... DH does too! What are your plans for NB diapers?

Well, I'm getting a pack of newborn disp. but I'm going to get some pre-folds too. I will attempt the prefolds for the first month or so, considering I'm going for ebf, and I will be with the baby all the time. I figure if they don't work out, they make great spit-up cloths!

Later on, I will be using the BGs, and subing with the pre-folds if possible when I know DH isn't around (I just don't have the confidence that he will be able to handle them.)

But if you have any better ideas, I'm open for suggestions!?

  • I just use flushable liners and Mustela if she has a rash (which is rare! And only more common now that she has started food).?

  • We used Kissaluvs size 0 at first... then switched to BG.

I use a liner now too Reese! You are right she has really only gotten a rash a couple times and its because of the new solids!

  • I use a locally made olive oil based cream and DD really never gets rashes. I just wanted to say that prefolds aren't too bad... your DH can probably handle them :) Just get some good covers (like KCKs) and then they won't leak if he folds them wrong. :)

  • I, too, use a liner if I'm using any creams.  I think they all can leave some residue and *might* cause problems that make you need to strip the diapers.  However, I'm curious whatever one the EFF board recommends...hmm!

I have used Waleda cream (dried her out too much one time, so I stopped, but it would take away any redness in half a day, I swear!) and Burts Bees, which I really like.

Also, expect diaper rash with cloth diapers, too, but probably not nearly as often!  All it takes is just the tiniest bit too much detergent left in the diaper and it can irritate my baby a little.  But never had any level of rash that I've seen others have.  BGs are AWESOME easy, and I used prefolds & a few all-in-ones in XS and S until she fit in the BGs.

  • DS had chronic rash for 9 months, which is what finally made me take the plunge into CDing. He didn't have even a trace of rash for the first month, but he gets a mild rash now and then now (probably food-related).

I've been using California Baby cream or Angel Baby Bottom Balm, something like that, I may have the name slightly wrong. I don't really like the Angel Baby stuff just because it's really expensive for a small jar.

The next one I'll try will be the Northern Essence or whatever it is that alot of the EFF board uses.

I really like the bGs -- they don't leak!
