Babies: 9 - 12 Months

honey question

i know we're not supposed to give babies honey cause it causes botulism, but what about something that has honey as an ingredient? I have been giving DD toasted bread with melted cheese for lunch, and I just realized today my bread is Honey Wheat and has honey in the ingredients. Is that ok, or should I stop and buy new bread??

Re: honey question

  • I would stop because I heard baking or cooking does not kill the botulism spores.

  • I was told no honey or anything with honey in it. I would stop and get plain white bread for her or something that doesn't have honey in it.

  • Hmmmm..... I was told that it was just raw honey that was the problem.  We gave her honey grahms and things like that all the time.  This was 3 years ago with DD1 though - so maybe guidelines have changed? I'd call your own Dr to check and see what they advise.
  • Everything i've read says that cooking/baking does not kill the botulism spores.  I would stop giving her the bread and I'd find an alternative.
