?I'm taking a BF class at B-North in about 2 weeks. Has anyone taken a class there? What should I expect? ?And more importantly, did your DHs go with you to the BF class?
TIA!?

I took one there while I was pregnant and brought my DH along with me. There were actually a lot of other guys there. I was glad he came along because he was able to help a little bit more when the baby arrived. He got a lot out of the class. I didn't, on the other hand. It was nice to know some things they taught us, but like they say, you really learn by doing it yourself when the baby comes. With that said, I guess I am glad I took it, and definitely glad he was there with me. Good luck. All of the LCs that teach those classes are great.
I took one at St E and yes, Mike went with. I'm pretty sure everyone in the class was part of a couple. It was really helpful because when Maggie was born, I was so exhausted that I needed his support and knowledge to get nursing started properly.
I took a BF class, but it was at Mercy where I delivered. The class was wonderful. It was led by a nurse who is a certified lactation consultant and it basically covers all the nuts and bolts about BF.........why it's good for the baby, why it's good for the mother, it covers the different techniques, and includes some kind of video (it's not gross, it's informative). I want to say that our class also included a section on some trouble areas that are common so you can identify them quickly and know when to reach out for help.
I think you should definitely take your DH with you. Mine went with me and and I think he was glad he did. There were 8 women that took the class I did and only one didn't have her husband with her. It helped me immensely after the birth to have him have some knowledge and help me through our immediate issues when I was really suffering through sleep deprivation. Your DH might protest at first (mine did), but we were both really glad that we did it the way we did after the fact.
I took mine at B North. It was helpful for me, but very helpful for DH. I was glad I took him. There was only one woman in the class who didn't have a partner with her.
I just wanted to add that my DH is definitely planning on going but I was the one who was concerned that he might be the only guy there. I didn't want him to feel awkward or embarrassed.

I would bring him! When I tried to BF in the hospital, DH had no idea how to cheer me on or even how it was supposed to work. It would have been nice to have at least one person in the hospital who could have helped me out!

I took my breastfeeding class at Mercy Anderson and DH went along. At first he was the only guy there and he was not too pleased (there were 6 or 7 other women there). Luckily another couple showed up late so he wasn't the only guy. I think my class was the exception rather than the rule. Anyway ditto the pps--DH learned a lot and we're both glad we went.
We were signed up for one, but didn't get to go since I was put on bedrest the week before. It didn't really matter though b/c the LC visits while you're in the hospital and gives a very hands on (and I mean that literally) lesson anyway. DH paid very close attention to everything she had to say, and it was great for him to have some knowledge about it and also to have his support and understanding.

Ditto this, but don't necessarily count on it. DD was born the day before a "holiday" (Mother's Day) and there were no LCs on call the day I had her and the day after. The nurses were no help getting her on my breast and pointed out that with her suckling problems, she was having latch issues. By the time the LC showed up, I was being discharged and DD was on formula. Hopefully you'll have better luck than me, but you never know-- I was totally counting on LC help.
If something comes up and you both can't go, there is a video called Laugh and Learn about Breastfeeding that gets good recommendations. We watched Laugh and Learn about Childbirth and I really liked it.

I took the BN BF class. My DH went with me. There were only 2 women in the class that did not have a partner with them. DH has told me over and over that he learned so much and was glad he went with me. BF did not work out for us because I never produced anything after the colostrum. DH has said that he understands why that was so upsetting to me solely because of the class we took. I would insist that my DH attend that class.

Ditto this. DS arrived at 3:43 AM on a Thursday. The LC didn't come to see me that day... and I don't know why. The LC did come on Friday though. That weekend was Labor Day, so my home visit (where they will look at your baby's latch) didn't happen because the nurse didn't call until noon Monday. So that was about 66 hours after my release, and after 72 it's no longer covered. She didn't leave a message either and we didn't answer the phone because we were dealing with Brandon. When I called first thing the next morning, it was "too late." I was really ticked then, and it still gets my blood boiling now.
I think you are definitely right to take your DH with you, and I believe you should take the class. I did not, and I didn't know what to look for after we got home. Brandon spent 3 days at Children's when he was 1 week old because he was dehydrated. Thank god he is fine now, but that was about the scariest thing ever for us at that time.
C didn't go and I wish he would have. I was afraid he'd be the only guy there so I told him it was OK to stay home. I was the only partner-less one there.
I was lucky and had a good experience with the LCs, but the nurse had kind of already blown things for me by handing me a nipple shield that tore my nipples up and giving Baby C a bottle without my permission.
