Parenting after a Loss

recommend your "regular" formula

DD is on alimentum because she had such eating problems in the beginning. Pedi said we could start weaning her onto regular (and much cheaper!) formula after 4 months. Now that we are home from vacation I'd like to try it this week. What should I buy?

FWIW she was on Good Start in the very beginning but threw everything up. To this day I think it was more my failed attempt at BF that messed her up and not a milk allergy.?

Re: recommend your "regular" formula

  • I like Enfamil - they have a formula called "A.R." for babies who spit up.  My mom's an LC and MIL is a midwife and they both recommend Enfamil.

yup we use enfamil and love it..less gas and spitting up. I found that good start was harder to mix and was really sticky..no problems with the enfamil!

  • Enfamil Gentlease is more broken down than regular formulas, so it may be a good transitional formula since she was already getting her proteins broken down for her with Alimentum. I have some friends that use it and no complaints.
  • We've always used Similac. Similac Neosure after she was first born for prematurity, then Similac Advance (or Organic, but it's more expensive), but my DD doesn't have any issues with anything. She's taken to anything she eats very well.
  • Similac Sensitive.  She also did well with the Goodstart, but we needed to find a cheaper alternative.

  • We use Similac Advance with early immune shield.  We have not had any problems with it and Emma has not had any gas issues either.
  • We use similiac advance too and really like it.
  • we use enfamil gentlease - andrew does great on it!
  • Another similac advance user here.
  • DS has been on Nutramigen since he was about 6 weeks old. ?Pedi told us that she would like us to start working him off just to see if he can tolerate the milk proteins (we are pretty sure that WAS his issue). ?starting next weekend, we are going to be slowly trying the transition. ?she told us to use Good Start. ?not sure the exact one but it is in a green can. ?

Good luck - i know how expensive that stuff is!!?

  • We use Enfamil Gentlease to help with a gassy baby. It helped.
  • another similac advance user here too! No problems so far!
  • We're on Earth's Best (not the soy kind).  It is a little more expensive, but I like their policy on GM ingredients, and it's organic.  They also seem to have really high quality control, which is important with the scares over formula in the last year.  My favorite part is that it doesn't make him smell like formula... I hate that smell!
  • We use Similac Advance early shield.  DS does great on it and hasn't had gass issues at all.
  • If she does have a milk allergy, just be careful.  DD had a milk allergy - and we got the go ahead at 6 months to try a regular formula again.  After we had a cough that persisted for over 3 months, I finally asked if it could be the regular formula.  Lo and behold, as soon as we went back to the Nutramigen - her coughing decreased by 80%.
