Babies: 9 - 12 Months

how much did your baby "talk" at 6-7 months?

its seems like i have a really quiet baby.  most times he doesn't say much at all.  he'll have short periods throughout the day will he babble and screech for awhile but then you might not hear another peep out of him till the next day.  he's advanced gross motor wise (already starting to crawl) and seems to catch on to things quick (peek-a-boo, fake coughing, high fives, etc.) but the lack of babbling makes me nervous.  being a first time mom, i don't know if i'm expecting too much too soon.  how much did your baby "talk" at 6-7 months and when did he/she start saying "baba" and "dada"? thanks!

  • DS went through a quiet time between 5-6 months old. ?It was when he first started rolling and moving around. ?I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not??? ?Now... ?He's NEVER quiet. ?He's constantly babbling! ?I wonder if it has anything to do with him possibly concentrating on learning new things? ?maybe your LO is concentrating on crawling?

I wouldn't worry about it. ?Like I said- DS went through a period of not making a peep!?

  • Oh don't worry about it now....he'll do it soon enough...its when he's 12-18 mons and not saying anything that its a red flag!!  He may just be working on other milestones he'll get to it.  My ds is a non stop talker....but he's just starting to crawl at 8 mons!  I know you already know this but reading to your baby helps his language alongSmile

  • Jacoby will have days where he doesn't say much, then days where he screeches all day.  He doesn't say anything that sounds like words though, just babbling.

  • DD didn't babble at all till 8 months.  Before that she would screech and stuff but not really talk.  It was like overnight she started saying bababa and dadada.  Mama came a few weeks later.  My DD was also more interested in motor skills.  She started crawling at 5.5 months and is already taking steps on her own.  Every baby is soooo different.

  • He says baba dada lala and blah blah. He's always been vocal but just started forming sounds. He's not even close to crawling or doing high fives. I think babies just do things in different orders. My BFF DDl is the same age as my DS and she isn't as vocal but could sit unassisted first and say dada first.

  • DS didn't babble till about 10 months.  He started baba and dada just before 11 months.  He started walking before babbling.

  • My DS is a good "babbler" but is a bit slow with some of the other things you mentioned.

  • so far he will say dadada, bababa and tttttt (it sounds like hot with a stronger emphasis on the 't') but some days he is quieter than others.

like pp said...babies develop so differently from each other and have SO many other things going on, I wouldn't stress unless this continues after 12 months :-)

  • According to my First Language Acquisition textbook, all the the studies they do show the average age of first words to come around 10 months, so I'm sure you're ok.
