GD Mamas ... need help, have a question

So let's say, hypothetically, you got a high reading 2 hours after a meal.

A Very High Number.

(probably because you HYPOTHETICALLY ate a big cookie)

anyway.

So ... you take your number and it's high ... what then? Do you exercise to bring it down? Do you ignore it and realize in the future your hypothetical cookie should be smaller (or non existent)?

Or do you injest some protein to help your body process what's already in there?

Do you skip your snack then?

Re: GD Mamas ... need help, have a question

  • Im sore and lazy... i would probably skip my snack test later and not eat my hypothetical cookie next time... oh but i usually give my self a heartattack when i see the number pop up too!

::man i wish we could eat cookies and not worry::

  • Loading the player...
  • i would just note what i ate that time and maybe only eat protein for my snack instead of usual snack.
  • I would probably try and exercise today, and cut the cookie out for tomorrow (and probably for good) unless you know you ate other stuff today that could have had an impact.

  • 1) Don't freak out. If you go to the Diabetic Mommy's website and board, you will see that there are diabetic women who regularly have numbers in the mid- and high-200's.One high number (or even handfuls of high numbers) will not hurt you or the baby - it's a consistent high or patterns of highs that can be harmful.

    2) Stress will inevitably make your numbers higher, so best to not worry too much about it. I speak from experience.

    3) I would try to exercise for about 30 minutes, just to help bring it down a little.

    4) I would just be smart the rest of the day - make sure you're loading your meals and snacks with protein and the right, good carbs. But I probably wouldn't skip any meals or snacks.

Or I could just come over and give you a big fat shot of insulin? :-)

    lol, no thanks!

It was 160 and I haven't had a number that high in WEEKS. So I was a bit freaked out, to say the least.

it's reassuring to hear that an occasional HIGH number is not cause for concern. thanks for the words of wisdom!

  • I am a full time diabetic, and I would say not to stress too much about it, but that you should probably not eat a big cookie every day. I have to see the endoc. every week, and she does not stress about high numbers every once in a while. She stresses that it is the long term effects of the high numbers that is really dangerous. I have had them up in the 200-300's. I just have to adjust and avoid it in the future. Good Luck!
  • I would go heavy on the protein during your next meal or eat a cheese stick. I would rule out that particular cookie and cookies like it. I learned that red peppers spike sugar.  This whole thing is a learning expeience. Make a note of it and and find a different snack. It's all good : )
