Shower Help!

My friend's wedding shower is May 2.  Her mom decided she wants to do a tropical theme for the shower b/c her honeymoon is in Punta Cana.

We don't want anything too over the top - more subtle.  And she wouldn't be too into it if she walked into an Oriental Trading Co. extravaganza.  I'm thinking a mostly blue theme with bright, tropical accent colors.

Any ideas for decorating, centerpieces, games, prizes?

 TIA!

Re: Shower Help!

  • Have drinks with umbrellas in them.  You can get islandy party decorations (palm trees?).  Try to find tropical flowers for centerpieces.

  • Ikea has some cute glass centerpiece bowls, put some sand in those and some shells. I'm sure they have other cheapie goodies that are cute.
  • What about little vases with sand, shells & candles in them?  I went to a wedding where they gave those out as the favors.

  • My shower was slightly beachy themed. Here is my shower centerpiece. It was sand, engraved stones, some shells and candles on a plate.

  • My shower was "Mexico" themed as well and my SIL had little tequila bottles and she made little ponchos (like a miniature multi-colored rug she cut a slit in the middle to pull over the neck) for them.  Everyone loved them and I caught some people taking two!

I hope that description makes sense!

  • That should be graduation time...florists around here at least tend to have leis on hand to sell...not too pricey either.

Oriental Trading does have some cute drink umbrellas and some both plastic and nicer coconut cups for drinks.

If you're wanting flowers, I did all the ones for my wedding myself. (We did all tropical flowers) I ordered most from JR Roses, which is located in Florida. Google search: "JRRoses tropical" to get on the right page. They have some package deals that come with a lot of flowers for decent prices. They were beautiful.

  • I threw one once and we made picnic blankets for the grass (it was a nice day) and had a bar set up with 2 margaritaville machines making drinks.

  • I did the same thing for my bff's couples shower- it was in January so it was really fun to do a tropical theme. We bought a huge box of leis at party city (cheapy plastic ones) and bought pretty ones for the bride and groom. I bought palm tree drink stirrers and little umbrellas for drinks. You can find tons of stuff at party city.

We did a cookout and had a keg (not your conventional shower, but all the guests were under 30, so it was a young crowd- so much fun!).

We didn't do games, but you can find so much online.

    We used these invitations: ?https://www.polkadotdesign.com/catalog/Cross_My_Heart/CMH-E7129

This site has TONS of awesome tropical-theme invitations.?

  • Here are some pics from our couples luau shower. I don't think it was too over-the-top.
