but the farthest I've ever run in my life without walking is 4 miles. I'm only up to two miles right now, and have been running consistently 3x a week since November. I just have no motivation to work harder--I feel like a race might help with that. Do you think that 10 miles is too ambitious?
I've got until October to make it up to 10 miles, but I'm not sure that DH will be willing to give me the time to work out that much.
Maybe I could convince him that I need a jogging stroller.
Re: So, I kind of want to run the Army 10 miler
it's definitely doable! i ran my first half marathon in college b/c i wanted to get in better shape (i only gave myself like a month to prepare - hadn't ever really run before).
now i run a marathon once a year. it's addicting and feels great afterwards!
I'm up to 3 miles right now and I plan to be at 10 miles by June. I run 3 miles tonight and 4 miles on Sunday...next week I start 5 mile runs. Just follow a training plan 3x a week, cross train on your non-running days and don't say "can't...maybe...I hope" etc. motivate yourself by saying YOU WILL. If you don't, then you'll be lax about it and next thing you know, you missed your goal.
I told my husband that running is important to me so we have a treadmill and we coordinate as best we can for me to run. I am hoping to do a marathon in the next few years...if I can.
Start with some 5ks - I did my first 5k last Thanksgiving - it rocked. I had one in Dec and I have my next one in march. I'm joining the running club that has local races all the time. Races keep me engaged and focused. It's easy to get lazy with our crazy lives. I run 3-4x a week on top of working and commuting on average 3hr a day.
