Help! Hand-Foot-Mouth and rashes questions...

Hi girls,

I know I've been MIA... I haven't been able to get on here at all! With my new job, I'm never online, and by the time I get home at night I'm getting everything ready for the next day and crashing out. And these last few weeks have been a bit rough health-wise. We all been battling colds and unknown illnesses. Fun,

But now, my questions are about L and I'm hoping you can help shed some light (as I wait to call the dr's office for the upteenth time this week). Last Thurs, when I picked L up from daycare, I noticed a bump/lesion/ulcer something on his bottom lip. They said he'd been messing with it all day, that it could be because of the cold, yada yada. Next day it was a little bigger so I called the dr's office and they said bring him in (mind u, neitehr DH or I have ever had cold sores, so I wasn't sure if that's what we were dealing with). Well by the time it's dr time, I notice he has a little pimple-like thing on one of his fingers, so I show that to her. She looks at all his skin, and there's a little red bump on his tush, too. She said it looked like classic hand-foot-mouth disease but we'd know for sure by the weekend because he'd break out in blisters. And his throat was red. Well, come Sun, only one more "blister" on his toe and nothing else. His appetite has been horrible though - not wanting to eat much or drink (and we got him everything from pedialyte to pediasure to all juices and water - anything he'd drnk). He had a slight fever fri night and has been warm since, but no more actual fever.

He slowly started eating a little more yesterday (he still won't eat anything warm/hot - only cold) and he started peeing more and pooping again. Well, this morning, he woke up with a rash on the back of his neck! It's from the hair line on the bottom to about the top of his shoulders and from right to left on the neck. It looked like a bad sunburn. Now the sunburn aspect has been going away slightly but he's left with red splotches and bumps. Oh yea, and he started sniffling and having major boogies last night.

Anyone have any ideas? Any experiences with HFM? I feel like L has been sick since the year started (he got his first cold right for the zoo gtg!) and hasn't really gotten better! Sigh. Thank you, and I miss you guys. :( I hope that once spring break/summer rolls around, you'll be seeing me a lot more and maybe we can schedule gtg's then! :) Thanks.

  • Hi Mama. I am so sorry that you have been dealing with this! You poor thing. And poor Lukas!!! There is nothing worse than our babies being sick and uncomfortable.

I have never dealt with HFM but I know Kimmie's girls had it so you may want to page her. I want to say other mommies have dealt with this, too, but Kimmie is the only one I vividly remember talking about it on here.

(((BIG HUGS))) and buckets of wishes for a quick recovery for Lukas.

  • A day late and a dollar short but it doesn't sound like HFM to me.  Noah had collections of blisters (as did Walter once he caught it), it wasn't like one random one here or there and it only appeared on their hands, feet and mouth.  Good luck!  I hope he's better soon!
