I'm a grad student in a lab. I run experiments which have me on my feet for 4-5 hours at a time. Lately, my ankles have been swelling to 3x the normal size (no exaggeration) and I have log legs. My back also aches. I get a little light headed and I'm just generally tired.
I feel like this is all part of being pregnant, but it's tough. Is it unreasonable to ask my boss if I can work on a presentation I have to give (I have to come back from maternity leave for a day) and start writing my thesis these last 3 weeks of pregnancy? I get the impression that my boss wants me to keep plugging away at running experiments, but it's getting hard to do the work well because I get tired so fast. Then again, I don't think I should get special treatment because I opted to have a child.
I'm afraid my boss will say to work on my presentation/thesis at night - but I don't have time. Once I go home, I'm in baby mode trying to get the last minute stuff done.
What would you do?
