I got a home made gift basket that was actually a ton of baby things that we needed all packed into a clothes hamper...it was super cute and with that one gift it crossed so many things off of the list of things I needed!
We were given a little baby tub that has a built in shower device that sucks up the water from the tub and sprays just like a little shower....I love that thing!
dr browns drying rack for bottles, sterilizer and formula mixing pitcher.
bath tub stocked with aveeno and johnson goodies inside,
xtra crib sheets, pnp sheets, changing pad covers..
unique: a guest got us a car emergency baby kit stocked with red cross kit, blankets, batteries, carrier, vicks thermometer pacifier, hat, extra outfit .
Haven't had my shower yet, but I always get the same thing for people... and they all seem to love it. I actually have a few ideas...
1) A baby bath tub (using it as a basket), and filling it with diapers, wipes, soap, lotion, powder, q-tips, a bath towel and washcloth, alchohol swabs (for their belly button), a rubber ducky, diaper cream, and an outfit. I call it "Bath Time"... that way the new mom has everything that she will need for their first bath.
2) A diaper bag. In it, I put diapers, wipes, a travel kit with soaps and lotion, an outfit, a bottle, a pacifier, a blanket, a travel formula container. I figure this way- their first diaper bag is ready to go.
3) A wicker basket- In it, I put diapers, wipes, lotion, soap, powder, a bottle, a pacifier, a dishwasher basket, a travel formula container, q-tips, alchohol swabs, nail clippers, a hair brush and comb, a bib, an outfit, a blanket... Just basically a big basket full of little stuff. It can add up in price and it is really helpful to parents who might forget or not realize things that they need.
Of coarse- I hope to get all of my "big-ticket" items, but I love to get all of the little stuff too. It's so much fun...
My favorite cool shower gift is...My sister bought a ton of outfits each with matching socks, bibs, or booties, etc, and she clothespinned them all to a clothes line. When I opened the hamper I pulled out one end of the clothes line got up and walked around the entire room with the clothes line filled with clothes. It took 3 people to help me hold it up. It was awesome and I have enough clothes for my son pretty much for the entire first year.
So sorry to not answer your question, but I was looking through the nestie gallery pictures and saw what I thought was a kitchen with cork floors. Is that yours? Are they cork...do you love them? We're trying to decide if we're going to get them or not, like in the next week or two but I have not seen them anywhere where I can ask someone.
My sister bought me a nursing night gown for me to wear after the baby was born. It was extremely thoughtful and it was nice to receive something for myself.
I agree with the poster who mentioned those who shop off the registry. 2nd would be gifts for Mom like gift certificates for pregnancy massage and nursing pjs.
one of our favorites to open was a basket of "our favorite things" and it included all of the little things she found as a mom to be helpful--like an mosquito net for the infant carseat, huggies changing table covers, vitamin supplements, oatmeal with bananas, formula, and various other little things.
Another was another bright blue rolling basket that we can put baby toys in...and it was filled with a blanket, swaddlers, baby lotion/wash, wipes, two little onesie summer outfits, two books (one for mom/one for baby). It was really creative and generous!
$50 savings bond for baby
WAY too many blankets. I bet we have about 20 blankets now (no exaggeration). Many were homemade quilts and fleece blankets that people made from church, we will just have an ample supply to go around various places (car, home, nursery, bedroom, in-laws house, etc) People were smart to buy clothing in MANY sizes...so that was good.
Our family and friends were overly generous and purchased everything off of our registry. One of my favorite gifts that I did get were from my group of girlfriends. They all chipped in and bought me a breastpump, diapers, baby toys, tons of baby clothes and then had another basket w/a manicure & pedicure gift card, a gift card for a restaurant, a bottle of champagne, vodka, tequilla and some mixers. The note said to have a "mommy & daddy night out". It was so cute!
Another amazing gift was a clothes line w/clothes & shoes ranging in all different sizes. It must have taken her a very long time to do all the shopping and put it together. I felt so bad that I had to actually take the clothes off of the line.
I haven't had a shower yet, but I have been receiving gifts. I love anything that is handmade with love. Many of our baby's family members live a fair distance away and we are loving decorating the nursery with photos of the family members and things that they have made themselves just for the baby!
One of my favorite gifts was a set of very nice pewter baby frames, that was accompanied by a gift certificate for a baby photo shoot. Very creative and nice!
Another favorite was the personalized newborn hat with her name to wear in the hospital.
Not having a shower this time, but my favorite gift at my shower for my son was from my mom and sister. They bought a small wooden toy box from Hobby Lobby or one of those places. It looks like a wooden block (you know, with the letters/numbers on it?) and they painted it and filled it with stuff that we needed. They included some clothes, baby wash, all sorts of smaller things that add up to a lot of $$ when you have to buy them all yourself.
This is the first baby in the family in about 6 years. The family spoiled my munchkin rotten. The best gift was the set of books my cousin got together from my mom's(who passed away in Sept) collection. It brought the whole room to tears. I gotta admit the little Water Soother with lights and sound was awesome as well.
Re: If you've had your shower...
A "baby care" package that included a couple of bags of diapers, wet wipes, baby lotion, baby bath, and diaper rash cream.
Oh and our bath tub!

Bath bombs from Lush for me. Batteries (we all forget those). Gift cards.

#1= people who actually buy something off the registry
second best = anything handmade, anything funny
worst = too many ugly onesies in the newborn size, something that screams "regifted"!!!!

#1 - Most definetely off the registry. I was lucky most people actually bought from mine
#2 - Clothing not in the newborn size.
One of my favorite gifts was a set of very nice pewter baby frames, that was accompanied by a gift certificate for a baby photo shoot. Very creative and nice!
Another favorite was the personalized newborn hat with her name to wear in the hospital.
A hand made quilt made by a friend and his girlfriend. It was made in our nursery colors and was totally unexpected. So very thoughtful.
