Bicornial Uterus?

So I had an ultrasound at 9wks.  The doctor said that I had an bicornial uterus and it wasn't extreme.  He said that there was a possibility of an early pregnancy.  I just got a call from the doctor and they wanted to do an ultrasound at 17-18 wks.  I asked why and they said that the doctor wanted to be precautionary about my bicornial uterus.  If there was any further questions after the ultrasound they would send me to a genetic counselor.  Now I am a little freaked out.  Everything that I read is giving me scary information.  I am at 14 wks now and feel great.

Does anyone have help or information?

  • I would say its best you wait to see the doctor/genetic counselor because they will be able to immediately respond to your questions.   You are going to scare yourself looking that up online.

  • I have the same issue. There's a good chance of preterm labor and increased possibility of c-section. Do you have two cervixes? I have two cervixes, which puts me at a higher risk of an incompetant cervix. I get ultrasounds every 4 weeks to monitor it. So far, everything has looked great! The ultrasound(s) you'll get are just precautionary, so try not to worry too much. It's really great getting to see your baby multiple times and to be reassured that everything is going well.
  • Thanks for the information.  That is reassuring.  I don't think I have two cervixes.  I do have a tipped something.  I just miscarried in June and now I am scared about this.  It is helpful to know that you have been successful.  Thank you
  • I was told this is what I have at my 10 wk u/s. Mine is very minor and will most likely not cause any problems for the growth of the baby. I however was told that I should be aware that a c-section might happen, because with this shaped uterus the baby could have problems turning. Hence a breech baby. My dr. didn't seem horribly concerned so I am not worrying a whole lot. The stuff I read on the internet is enough to scare anyone, try and stay positive and I am sure everything will be ok.

  • I have this as well.  You have to be a bit more closely monitored and there are concerns about growth restrictions but as long as you rdoctor is on top of it (and it seems he/she is) you will be fine.
