So a few weeks ago I posted about a severe, constant headache. I finally ended up in the emergency room and after a week in the hospital was diagnosed with a blood clot in my brain. I just started taking a lovenox (two injections twice a day). I'm officially a high risk pregnancy and will be watched very closely.
I've been reading a lot on the internet and have asked my doctors tons of questions. But I was wondering whether anyone had any personal experience with blood clots/blood thinners during pregnancy. I'm absolutely terrified and even though the docs have done their best to assuage my fears, I still keep thinking about the worst.
Thanks,
Brenda
Re: Blood clot and blood thinners
I have the Factor V leiden gene disorder. Its not a big deal- I'm not high risk or anything. I just need to take baby aspirin throughout my pregnancy up until a couple week before my due date.
My sister on the other hand has the same thing (its hereditary) but she had a clot before- one in her leg and one in her lungs (DVT). Because of that she needs to be on blood thinners the rest of her life- Coumadin. When she got pregnant she had to get off of that right away and I believe she went on lovenox. I know she was giving injections a couple times a day. I think she had to stop that right before her due date. Her pregnancy was fine, she didnt have any complications.
Im so sorry to hear about your situation but thank god you and the baby are ok. My thoughts and prayers are with you!
I'm glad you're doing okay now - how scary!
I take a baby aspirin everyday to reduce the risk of blood clots (my doctor started me on them at 5 weeks and I will continue them until 33 weeks). I know there are a lot of women that have to do the Lovenox shots during pregnancy - you might want to ask over on the Success After a Loss board because I know a lot of women on there do those shots everyday. I had to give myself Lovenox shots everyday for 3 months when I was going through cancer treatments a couple years ago, and although they are a pain, they're no big deal once you get used to them. GL!
I am on lovenox due to a cloting enzyme and previous m/c. I only do 1 injection once a day because I am just preventing clots.
I still have a ton of questions and I feel like I learn something new (and sometimes scarey) everyday. I haven't delivered yet, but I have been talking to woman who was on lovenox with her pregnancy and she delivered a healthy baby boy.
I can try to answer any questions you have, but I have only been on the injections for a month, so I too am learning.
Hi there,
Sorry that you are dealing with this. ?I had a blood clot in my leg in 2004 and was diagnosed with a gene mutation. ?Because of this, I am on Lovenox injections twice a day. ?Annoying, right? ?This is my second pregnancy and all went well with the first one
?Lovenox is very safe to take, and your OB will probably switch you to Heparin around 37 weeks. ?They can safely reverse the effects of Heparin if you go into labor. ?If you think you are going into labor, do not take a shot of Lovenox or Heparin.
