3rd Trimester

How do I get on bedrest?

Wouldn't that be nice? To just walk in and ask the doc to please start me on bedrest because I ache, my feet are swollen and I can barely walk. I just found out my maternity leave is only 5 paid weeks for "standard births" but if I'm on bedrest before birth I'd get a lot more paid leave. Grrr...

Re: How do I get on bedrest?

  • Having been on bedrest once already this PG I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

    *edited to add:

Nor would I ever request it.  Restricted hours?  Yes.  Bedrest?  HELL NO.

  • You should ask...I have known people who have just asked and their doctors are cool with it and just wrote them a note, no problem. Give the whole song and dance about work is hard on your body, stresses you out and is too uncomfortable. Its worth a shot!

  • it's not as nice as it looks.  I ache just as much on bedrest.  I am so sick of laying here and not being able to get outside.  I have nothing finished and prepared for when she comes and it drives me nuts I can't get it ready.
  • House rest or restricted hours....absolutely. Bed rest would be a pain in the A$$ though. Ask your doctor what the policy is. Most will give you leave starting at 38 weeks.

Exactly.  Bed rest doesn't mean you just don't have to go into work anymore.  You are actually supposed to be resting.  As in not moving.  As in bored out of your everloving mind while all of your household stuff goes by the wayside.

Ditto - My Dr actually asked if I wanted taken off work last week.

  • Yah, I don't mean it literally, I mean it so the doctor writes me the note so I can get longer leave. Maybe I will just mention it like you said above, I wouldn't mind a week of rest before my due date anyway!
  • I would not wish bed rest on anyone.  Yeah, I don't have to go to work, but I can't do anything else either.  It sucks.

Be happy your pregnancy is going the way it should be.

Ditto.  I would LOVE to get up, get in my car, and go to Target.  Or the mall.  ANYWHERE but here.  Not fun.

    9/12/14 - M/C @ 7 weeks, 1 day (ectopic)

  • Hearing from the girls on here who are on bedrest, I'm pretty sure it's something that you wouldn't want.  A vacation, yes...bedrest, no.

  • When my doctor was filling out my leave paperwork I put that I wanted to work right up til delivery if possible. ?She said are you sure? ?I can write you out at 36 weeks. ?So just ask who knows. ?Though I wouldn't want bedrest just restricted activity.

I saw your reply that you didn't mean it literally, but from someone who has been on bedrest for 3 months and has only left the house to go to doctors appts since mid-November, this post seems pretty crappy and insensitive.

  • I wouldn't ask for bedrest, but I'd let the doctor know how uncomfortable you are -- I think alot of doctors are okay with writing you out early because work just becomes too much.

  • Seriously? All I have to say is SHUT UP! Those of us who have been on bedrest for 1 week or 3 months really resent this question. I have to struggle everyday to keep this little guy in me and you get to be out in the real world. Bedrest, the meds, contractions, etc. SUCKS! We still have the same aches, pains, crabiness, stress, and anything else pregnancy related, but multipled because all we have to do is think about being pregnant and worried that we may not be tomorrow. Think before you post something this moronic about bedrest. We aren't here to "put up our feet", we are here to keep from delivering or losing our babies.
