Boy or girl, which is easier to diaper change?

I'm gonna go with girl.  With boys, there's the whole pee straight up or in pretty much any direction once diaper is removed.  Also *TMI* but sometimes the poop gets under DS' nuts which can be difficult to clean ;)

So, so far I think girls are easier to change.  Not sure if it's just because I don't remember what it was like to change DD at DS' age?  Anyway, your thoughts?  Stick out tongue

  • yeah, I keep squashing his nuts tryong to get the poop out from under them...ew. and ow.

  • There are far less nooks and crannies for boys. I h-a-t-e changing a poopy diaper on Emily. I always feel bad when I have to clean within her labia because she says, "ow, mommy!".

  • I think a boy would be easier. The peeing when the diapers off thing goes away, but the cracks and folds and nooks and cranny's on girls is intimidating!

However, I only have a boy. I've changed numerous girls diapers, but... never my own DD on a daily basis.

  • I would rather worry about his nuts than getting it out of DDs va jay jay (not sure how Grey's Anatomy would spell that, lol)

  • I've got the hang of it now but when DS was first born I hated changing him.  When he was circumcised and I had to put the vaseline on it was impossible.  DH left the hospital for a couple hours and I called him hysterical because I was having such a hard time changing DS.  He would get pee everywhere.  I am still traumatized Tongue Tied and hope #3 is a girl.

  • Emilia totally leg locks and it becomes a wrestling match to get a wipey near her.

let us all hope that she continues this evasive maneuver until she is at least 17.

I'll take wiping nuggets any day.

  • I say boys are easier!
  • everyone is voting for whatever their 1st DC is ;)
  • LOL pin! i hate the leg locks!!!
  • Haha.  Good observation EMT.

Not me.  I think girls are easier and DS was #1.   Between the peeing, circ, wrinkly sac, etc I just think girls are easier.

LOL Nuggets - never heard it called that!

  • I will let you know once my BFF has her little girl. It's so weird, but I think I've only ever changed boys (my little brothers, my nephews, my other BFF's little boy....).
  • I *do* think boys are easier, but I hope #3 is a girl, just so I don't have to deal with the circumcision care again. I agree, that IS traumatizing for mommy and daddy(probably more so for baby, but let's not get into THAT). EMT, the peeing thing goes away once they get bigger. I can't even count the times I've been peed on by Ben!

  • I voted for boy because it is all I know.  The little boy peeing at the hint of cool air on the penis goes away eventually (I never got peed on, just H) and I think you just get used to whatever you have.  I'm also of the mind that I would rather deal with poopy nuts, which I can clean by maneuvering a wipe in any direction I need to in order to get everything off, than worry about making sure I only wipe from front to back and clean every little nook, cranny and fold.  Of course, this doesn't stop me from wanting a little girl but I know that diaper changes are going to be a whole new experience if we do have a daughter.

  • I think it depends...could be on or the other at any given time. With boys, you have to deal with the nuts and the possibility of pee coming up at you. With a girl, you have to deal with nooks and crannies like a pp said. Poopy changes can be a pain because it gets all up in the vajayjay area. I hate to see poop get all over in there and I hate having to clean it even more. Poor DD!

  • in all my years of being a nanny, working in daycare and having tons of nieces/nephews- i find boys easier... b/c they have less nooks and crannies that poop can get stuck in.

DS is almost 2 and I have never once been peed on (DH has though!). I don't find that to be an issue at all- if you keep it covered, you don't get peed on.

  • I only have a boy so the perspective of both but i would think girls are worse because they have more crevasses.  I never really had the boy peeing everywhere problem.  Only did it once or twice after a bath.
  • I have a boy and I voted girl.

Every diaper change, DS grabs his penis.  It's very difficult to keep his hands from getting down there while cleaning poo.

  • I've only changed boys, so I voted Boys....

with girls you have to be careful and wipe the right way. Not with boys...

and poop is only on the outside, never inside.. I am guessing with girls you have to carefully clean everything inside the vagina too...?

  • my ds was a breeze for me, peed on everyone else though. dd is a different story, she kicks herself out of the diapers, rolls out of the diaper, twists herself off of the diaper and then pees all over!
