Anyone Else's Baby Scream Uncontrollably With a Poopy Diaper?

It's like it burns him.  He stands funny, w/ his legs spread and howls.  Crying

He's always been like this.  Is it just his sensitive skin?  Or is it more?

  • jack hates it too. he screams and arches his back. he has never had a rash and his bum is never red so i dunno!

  • is it constipation? DD does this, and as soon as its out she's back to normal... i've actually been working on her pooping in the potty because her perineum is too short and can cause her pain if the poo is too large or to well formed, the sitting position helps her get it out w/o the added strain...dunno how that works with boys, but i have to imagine that if his lower GI track (right before the "exit") is bent like DD's it can't be fun. The pedi said this is the most common reason for constipation, with-holding (trying to prevent pooping) and painfull passing of any stool. Nothing you can do about it but give them stool softeners and "lube the track" to make it easier.

we've also been giving her fish oil (before bed and after breakfast) which has cut down on the "pushing" time and limits the event to crying instead of screaming.

  • He poops fine, he just can't stand it afterwards, when it's touching his skin.

    ditto

  • hmm... that is a little different then... i dunno... maybe its a good sign that he doesn't want poop in his pants?

  • My little guy doesn't scream, but he definitely is not fond of sitting in poo.  If he wakes up early from a nap this is the most common reason.  If I change him and put him back in his crib he'll usually fall right asleep.

  • Some babies just really don't like it. My son doesn't like it either and it always seems like his diaper hinders his poo progress too. We are going to try EC just at least so he can poop in the potty. We haven't started yet, but when we do see he has to go, we at least loosen his diaper and hold it there and then get rid of it as soon as he's done. He stays very happy that way.

Honestly, I think I'd scream if I had to sit in poo too. It probably doesn't feel very good.
